Toothache.?

I have been having this pain in my gum/tooth area. It is the worst when I lie down. It is very sensitive to hot and cold. I think it might be in infection. I have tried vicodin, tylenol, Ibuprofen, nasal decongestants, orajel, and the only thing that takes the pain away is when I swish my mouth out with very cold water. But that only takes the pain away for about two minutes. I have not been able to sleep in three days because everytime I try to sleep, my tooth starts throbbing, and when I use cold water to help it, I can only fall asleep for a few minutes at a time, because the pain in my tooth wakes me up. I know it isnt a cavity, wisedom tooth, absessed tooth, or anything like that. This has happened once before but It went away after a couple hours. Does anyone know what this is, and what to do about it, besides going to the dentist. Does it sound like an infection. Will taking Amoxicillin help.

Toothache.?
Amoxicillin will help for a short period of time and it is not solving your problem. You need to have a root canal or an extraction. Taking pain meds don't help becasue there is an abscess or infection in the tooth and the abscess needs to be removed before you will feel any true relief. Call your dentist~
Reply:I have always heard that if cold water makes the pain go away you have damaged the nerve in your tooth. The only way to get relief is to go to the dentist. Please don't wait any longer, you sound like you are so miserable!
Reply:After many years of toothache experience I would say this is an infection and amoxicillin isn't going to help it. Your best bet is get to a dentist. You will be happy you did. Good luck!
Reply:you need to see the dentist it sounds like it may by an infection reaching down tooth cavity into the nerves under the tooth.
Reply:Amoxicillin may very well help.

I'm not a dentist but some of your symptoms sound like TMJ

which is a form of Arthritis. It is called the great deceiver and can make any part of your body hurt.

Are you stressed or upset about anything. Make sure that you don't clench or grind your teeth together. Is the pain close to the back of your mouth like by your jaw? Try opening your mouth as far as you can then closing it.

You need to go to the Dentist as soon as you can.

I said a prayer for you. Hope you get bettter real soon.
Reply:Go to the dentist........ PenVK is usually PRESCRIBED by the dentist for infections.. please don't take a antibiodic without getting it prescribed and using it properly, people who do this actually cause resistant strains of bacteria ( Ex. MRSA) Just bite the bullet and go to your dentist so the infection doesn't spread.... BTW an abcess is an infection.

Reply:From your description ,it seems like an acute reversible pulpitis, which is inflammation of the pulp with acute symptoms due to some cause, may be a cavity. Visit your dentist to find out. For the time being You can try Aceclofenac 100mg tablet twice daily. Is there root abrasion at the gum tooth interface or a gum recession? As sometimes caries of the root also ,can cause it. Feel free to ask , With detail description of your symptoms on email.
