I have a toothache in a back bottom tooth. What can I do to help alieve the pain? I have taken Ibprofen, alieve, tylenol, excedrin, and asprin. My tooth is not absessed. I think the gums are swollen. Also, I have an earache on the same side. Could it be that both are hurting each other or is one causing the other? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Toothache!!?
MANY TIMES WHAT SEEMS TO BE A LOWER TOOTH IS ACTUALLY AN UPPER DUE TO THE WAY THE NERVES INTERACT.
THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO SEE A DENTIST FOR A PROPER DIAGNOSIS.
Reply:take orajel .... it numbs the tooth
Reply:Well It may well be that you have an infection that is causing both of them, but for your tooth I suggest rinsing with warm salt water. My dad is a dentist so I know a little about teeth. Next, if the pain doesn't subside within a few days, or it gets substantially worse, please please please see someone about it. Sometimes infections in the teeth can cause serious problems.
Reply:Yes, it's possible that one is hurting the other. That area of your face is all connected.
My husband gets toothaches, and refuses to see a dentist so I had no choice but to find ways to help him alleviate his pain. One thing he does is swish the area with warm salt water. Not just a little bit here and there, but seriously he stands in the bathroom for like 10 minutes at a time and swishes and swishes until he can tell the pain is going away. He also uses quite salty water. There were a few times that the pain was so bad he simply wet his finger and rubbed the salt all around his tooth and just kept doing that.
There are alot of times that medicines won't work - sometimes it's best to just go back to nature and use a more natural cure.
Reply:Well, of course you should call your dentist, but in the meantime to relive the pain, bite down lightly on a warm, wet teabag. Something about the tannic acid in the tea takes care of the pain temporarily.
Reply:A tooth will cause pain into the ear, wisdom teeth are famous for it. You need antibiotics. Call your dentist and let him know you need to see him immediately. It is only going to get worse.
Reply:Well, if the gums are swollen and your ear hurts it is my guess that it is infected. I would recc. going to the dentist to get it examined and to take an x-ray it will show if it is infected and if there is any decay or cracks. If it is infected the only thing that is gonna help is antibiotics. But to answer your question in general, ibprofen is the best thing for any type of dental pain, you can take up to 800mg every 6hrs, thats four over the counter 200mg tablets per every 6hours and apply heat to the area to help circulate blood and to remove the infection faster. Hope this helps you out....
