Toothache?

I have what seems to be a toothache on my front tooth? It comes and goes and randomly the pain is dull to agonizingly bad (like right now). However, when I apply pressure to the tooth (i.e clenching my teeth or biting into something hard), the pain subsides for a few seconds?

Is that normal and is it anything to be all that worried about?

And please home remedies, I haven't been to a dentist for at least four or five years and I'm having the most difficult time trying to get an appointment with any place.

Toothache?
You can get in right away to see a dentist if it's an emergency. When the tooth hurts, it qualifies as an emergency. Most likely there is an infection in your tooth's nerve canal. When you put pressure on the tooth, it may be that you take the pressure away from where it hurts, if only for a few seconds.

Home remedies -- depending on how bad it is, of course, I think that anything short of Novocaine just prolongs the agony. Prescription medicine such as Vicodin may help some, but it's sort of a Catch-22. You need a dentist to prescribe you some. Taking a large dose of over the counter ibuprofen like Advil would be the next best thing.
Reply:better go see a dentist
Reply:hot water and salt in the month for few mins
Reply:you haven't made a visit to the dentist for quite awhile,

there's your problem
Reply:Sounds like you could have an infection, If i were you i would go and see the dentist as an emergency patient, there is nothing worse than tooth ache so i really do feel your pain.
Reply:Clove oil or put a clove in your mouth ,it tastes horrible ---but good-bye tooth ache.
Reply:You have two options. One: buy oral gel from the store and keep applying for quick pain relief. If you do it enough...eventually the oral gel will numb and kill the nerve and your front tooth will just decay until you can buy a fake porcelin one. Or, two: get super drunk and pull it out yourself.
Reply:Yes, it is normal for pressure to ease pain temporarily. There is more than likely some infection in there which will require a dentist. In the meanwhile, you may try flossing the area and flushing it with warm salt water. Sometimes that will help the pain ease back temporarily. You do need to get antibiotics as well. A dentist will be required to permanantly solve your problem. Now you know why they used to "Bite the Bullet!"
Reply:Go to your local drugstore and get Orjel, I think thats how you spell it....anyway, if you see something spelled along the line like that, get it. Then, apply a little bit to your tooth, but, not too much because if you do, then you'll end up not being able to feel any thing involving the mouth area, trust me, I did that once and I couldn't drink or eat anything until it wasn't numb anymore because I couldn't taste anything that went into my mouth and it would end up falling out of my mouth.
