After being unemployed and sedentary for four months, I started a job four days ago that requires quite a bit of physical activity. Yesterday I got a toothache in right upper molar which had root canal done on it a few years ago. Today I am having pain in the tooth when I bend over, stretch, or sneeze. Anybody out there have any idea why this is happening? Thanks!
Why does bending, sneezing, stretching cause toothache?
It sounds like you still have an abscess on that tooth or perhaps in an adjacent tooth. Raising your blood pressure through physical exertion will cause the inflamed area to hurt.
Either that, or you are bumping it hard with the opposing tooth when you do these things. Are you clenching your teeth together whenyou exert yourself? Most people DO bang their teeth together when they sneeze.
Reply:It might be swelling and pinching the nerve from tooth to ear. apply a warm heating pad.do not leave on more than 20 min. at a time.
Reply:You have to have a cavity somewhere on that tooth, otherwise you shouldn't get a toothache. When you sneeze, bend etc, the bloodpressure goes up a bit and your pulse quickens this will resound in the bad tooth. You need to see a dentist.
Reply:go back and see the dentist again
Reply:It might not be the tooth at all.
Do you have a head cold with sinusitis? You mentioned sneezing so i was just wondering.
Sudden movements will cause pain in the maxillary sinus which can seem to be coming from upper back teeth.
If so, treat the cold symptoms and the pain will disappear.
Reply:DR. SAM GIVES A GOOD OPINION, IF I MAY ADD,THAT THE BENDING OVER OR STRETCHING CAN ALSO PUT PRESSURE IN YOUR NASAL SINUSES AND CAUSE YOU TO BELIEVE THE PAIN IS FROM A TOOTH PREVIOUSLY ROOT CANALED. IF YOU BEND OVER WITH YOUR HEAD BY YOUR KNEES AND ALSO FEEL PAIN WHEN BENDING THIS MAY BE A SINUS INFECTION.
HAVE YOUR DENTIST EVALUATE THIS AREA WITH AN X-RAY TO MAKE SURE THERE ISN'T AN INFECTION IN THIS TOOTH OR THE ONE NEXT TO IT.

How to get rid of a toothache?
My wisdom teeth are coming in, and I don't have the money right now to go to the dentist and get anything take ncare of. Anyone know of a good way to help get rid of a toothache?
How to get rid of a toothache?
Nothing will take the ache away for long and you can't live on pain pills. Not taking care of them could wind up costiing you a lot more down the road, especially if they move or ruin your teeth. Bite the bullet, find the money and go to the dentist.
Reply:Anbesol-wal mart about 3 bucks
Reply:Try Orajel
Reply:tylenol, ice packs, ambesol. when mine first started to come in, chewing gum back there seemed to help for me.
Reply:if you can take aspirin then take one and place it over the area of the tooth. Let it dissolve on the spot. Its bitter and nasty tasting but it helps.
Reply:The pain of cutting teeth isn't really the same thing as a toothache. The pain you feel comes from your gums. It is, in fact, the same thing as when a baby is teething. You might try ice or you could buy some Orajel...it numbs your gums topically. Other than that, perhaps some ibuprophen.
Reply:I would suggest using oragel....or a great home remedi that my granny taught me....boil a regular tea bag in a cup of water in the microwave for about 30 seconds...take the tea bag out and make sure it is warm but not too hot....pat it against your gums and aching teeth....it will soothe the pain for you!
Reply:Sorry the only true and long term way to get rid of the pain is to have them taken out. You can try Ibuprofen to reduce pain and any swelling, and make sure to keep the areas clean by brushing well and flossing and using a good mouthwash.
You could check into payment plans, there is CareCredit which is a medical, dental, and vet credit card that has interest free plans depending on the length of time and amount needed.
Reply:Keep some hot water in your mouth for some time, repeat it 5-6 times,u'll feel better.Best home remedy is to keep 2 cloves at the spot which is affected by pain. Add some drops of lemon and salt in mustard oil and gently massage over the affected area.Hope these tips will work for you and relieve you from pain.
Reply:If you're sure the pain is coming from your wisdom teeth then this is usually quite normal and should go away after a day or two. It's clinical name is pericoronitis if you want to look it up.
Just keeping the area clean at the back and making sure no food or anything gets trapped there is the best thing to do. Mouthwashes or even warm saltwater rinses 2/3 times a day will help.
If the pain doesn't go away though and keeps coming back you should definately go see a dentist. This might turn into something more complicated and it may even get infected.
To be sure it's pericoronitis and not a decayed tooth, does it hurt (dull pain) when you push your finger on the gum on and around the tooth? If it does then it's probably normal, if it doesn't and gives you a sharp pain on eating/drinking it could be decay. Both are possible causes so more info would be helpful.
Depending on what the situation is exactly, and how many times the pain keeps coming back extraction would be the last choice, so don't worry about it for now.
Reply:take some pliers, then slowly rip them out of your mouth
i ended up looking like a hillbilly, but hey i have no more pain
Reply:Never place an aspirin directly in your mouth. It is very caustic and will burn the tissue in the area. If you need to relieve the pain, swallow it. Get to a dentist. There is no way you can self treat and end up with a pain free mouth - for very long anyway. Get it diagnosed and get the treatment and be done with it.

What can i do for a toothache?
been having really bad toothache. cant go to the dentist cause im 9 months pregnant. what can i do to relieve the pain? help its really painful.
What can i do for a toothache?
I'd take half an aspirin and swill it round my mouth, but you're probably a bit nervous of aspirin in your condition. I would recommend salt water - it stings but it may help.
Reply:get clove oil-non prescription
ask at pharmacy counter
and who says no dentist?
Reply:call ur geneologist to ask if viagra is ok
Reply:Chew on cloves. It's a natural pain killer.
Reply:see a doctor and see if you can get a prescription for T3. that's what I did when I was 8 months pregnant and had a tooth ache.
Good luck
Reply:Sip on ice water, it works for me and there is no medication involved or else you can use oral gel or both I have.
Reply:don't get me wrong but dab so. comfort anound the tooth. not to get drunk, something in it masks pain...
Reply:This is probably going to sound crazy but look up a reflexology chart on the internet of the tops of the feet. The pressure point for your teeth is on the top of your toes. Look at a chart to see exactly where and rub that spot. If it hurts, it means you've found it. Sometimes it is a little hard to find, but when you find it you'll know it!

wash your mouth with warm salt water do it several times and lots of salt...it should take about ten to fifteen minutes

Reply:good question...........i guess pulling it out will not effect you or the baby.....
Reply:put some salt in glass of warm water dont swallaw this water but gurgle this water in your mouth then do it again and again it should ease the pain abit
Reply:Call your OB. They can recommend something that will get you through the pain until the baby comes and you can get to the dentist. Don't take anything without talking to your doctor first.
Reply:Get oil of cloves topical from the drug store. Put a drop of it right on the aching part. It will not go into your system and be a problem for the baby but it will deaden the pain at the tooth.
Reply:had really bad toothache when pregnant, really wrecks your teeth. Get oil of cloves from a chemists, it stinks but its instant relief and safe! also is you have cloves, use them meanhile, just stick one inside your mouth closest to the sore tooth on the gum, its like a local anaesthetic. And my dentist was great, you can still have treatment whilst pregnant you know. Just only local anaesthetic in the gum.
Reply:herbalists say a clove pressed against it will help.
Reply:you can still go to the dentist .. I never let use any anti-Stesha on me .. the stress of the pain is harmful on the baby too...
Reply:Chew on a clove (the kitchen spice).
Don't laugh, try it!
Reply:Get orajel or some other topical analgesic. Also take tylenol or some other painreleiver if you are able.
Reply:yucky but oil of cloves should stop the pain
Reply:put a used wet lipton tea bag on the gums of the tooth that hurts and keep it there for a while. Got it from a health food magazine and it works surprisingly well.
Reply:You can go to a dentist they will more than likley give you an RX for Tylenol 3 and then schedule Treatment if needed after delivery. If the dentist thinks it could be a serious problem or you are just in serious pain, they can take an xray, using 2 lead aprons and a thyroid collar to protect you, but they still would more than likely delay treatment until after delivery. The safest time to treat pregnant women is in the 2nd trimester. Being 9 months I am pretty sure noone will treat at this point but could get you out of pain.
Reply:I would agree with mostly everyone. Try water and salt rinses a few times a day. I went through this myself... I used Anbusol (can't remember the spelling, lol).
Best to keep it clean with brushing and flossing. And to just head to the dentist. You'll definitely need to make and appt. anyway for after the baby is born to get the tooth fixed.
Oh ya, if there is face swelling try warm compresses for the pain. Alternate with cold compresses to get the swelling down.
: ) Good luck ( :
Reply:just standard over the counter tylenol works. Throughout my whole pregnancy i took tylenol 8 hr to relieve my aches and pains. But it you want a more natural method, warm salt water swished around in your mouth works wonders if you can deal with the taste of salt. Just dont put too much salt in it, just about a pinch or two.
Reply:i also have very bad toothaches before i was pregnant and my mom told me to take a pepperment tea bag wet it down and place on the tooth pepperment reduces swelling and helps with pain you can also drink the pepperment tea for slower results
hope this helps god bless you and your baby

URGENT!! please help, i have a toothache!?
I have the WORST toothache. I can't move, eat, or talk without it hurting like h-e-l-l! I need some home remedies that will relieve the pain, FAST! Please help me. I cant take this anymore. I'm seriously about to break down.
URGENT!! please help, i have a toothache!?
Take a tea bag (black/orange pekoe like from Lipton's tea)
and soak it in very hot water long enough that it starts to seep
color. Then let it cool a little, squeeze out some of the water and put it next to the tooth between tooth and gum, leave it in for 10 - 20 minutes and re heat again. If you don't squeeze out too much you can use it 5 - 6 times.
Also, take an aspirin, break it in to crumbles and put SOME of it under your tongue (the skin is very thin and medicine will
absorb quickly into the blood stream) at this spot even a baby aspirin has quick and noticeable effects.
Between the aspirin (for pain) and the tea bag (pain and swelling) you should start feeling better in 20 -30 minutes.
Reply:Thank you all for your answers. My tooth feels MUCH better now! I really appreciate you taking the time to help me. Report It
Reply:You probably have a abcess. You need to go to the dentist to get it seen about. They will give you antibiotics and pain meds but they won't help until you get the tooth fixed. I had one before the pain will drive you crazy. Call ASAP! I tried everything and nothing helped. Good luck.
Reply:oil of cloves %26amp; painkillers then dentist dude
Reply:Go to the ER and be seen by a physician. If you have an abcess, they will prescribe you with painkillers and antibiotics, this should give you nearly immediate relief tonight. If you wait until tomorrow, the dentist might not be able to see you, or will give you painkillers and antibiotics and have you come back in a week to allow the abcess clear up first. After the infection has cleared (it is this that is causing your pain by putting immense pressure on the nerves), you will more than likely need to have a root canal done. Find a good periodontist for this (ask co-workers and friends) and it should be practically painless.

clove oil is good, but only take what u would normal take for a headache or ask a pharmacy. i used parmol painkillers which is the strongest u can buy over the counter but u cant drink on them.
Reply:If you have pain while sleeping, you have a grade 3 pulpitis and that is irreversible. Meaning that you need a root canal treatment. there is no way to avoid it, no matter how many painkillers you gona take, it aint gona help you. Go to a dentist asap and get it checked. If you delay, infection could set in and you will get an abcess and unbearable pain at 12 midnight and then where will you run, so go now and get it seen to

Reply:go to the pro's aka a dentist
Reply:Hi Victor S,
Go to the drugstore %26amp; get some clove oil, (it comes in a box with cotton balls a little tweezers. You put the cotton ball into the bottle of clove oil %26amp; apply this right to the tooth. It'll numb your tooth try not getting this on lips or she'll have numb lips-then discard the cotton ball. Then see a dentist. You can consult with a doctor to see if clove oil is alright while being pregnant. Good luck this works really good.

Reply:See a dentist. The risks to the baby of leaving an infection untreated are far greater than any risk encountered in treating the toothache.
Reply:Toothache usually refers to pain around the teeth or jaws. The most
common cause of a toothache is a dental cavity and the inflammation
of the pulp(pulpitis) Sometimes a toothache may be due to non-dental
reasons like infection of the ears and sinus. If a tooth is affected
home remedies like clove oil can provide temporary relief, but it is
advisable to visit a dentist for a long term solution. More information

Good luck this works really good.

common cause of a toothache is a dental cavity and the inflammation

Reply:Oooh! I think toothaches are the worst pain. Call a dentist and ask if you can work something out. If you have an infection they will need to give you antibiotics to cure the infection before they can do anything with the tooth. I sympathise with you.
Reply:Ibuprofen with codeine will help with the pain and depending on what helps heat or cold, if heat feels better keep your mouth warm with warm salty water, or if cold is better suck on some ice cubes. But the reason you have a toothache is because your tooth is rotting and the nerve is slowly dying, and will hurt until it dies or is removed.
Reply:quickly go to an emergency room at your local hospital
Reply:get some eucalyptus oil on a piece of a cotton and keep with where u have a pain. it is very traditional remedy for toothache.
Reply:if the pain is so sever you may have an infection, abscess so you will need anti biotic.
pain killers try 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen at the same time or ask you chemist what you can buy over the counter
to see your dentist would coast around £20 with anti biotic small price to pay to be pain free
Reply:The reason why it hurts so bad is because you have an absess tooth. Which means you have a bad tooth and there is infection from your tooth that has moved up into your gum line and to your nerves which is causing the extreme pain you are in. The only way you are going to make the pain go away is by getting some anti-biotics into your system to fight the infection. Anti-biotics will make the pain go away before any pain-killers do.
Reply:cheddar cheese`s natural enzymes help.let t gently melt in your mouth around the tooth.
Reply:If you can get ahold of some vicodin, do so. Take the pill and put it on whatever tooth that hurts and let it dissolve. It is fairly disgusting, but I promise it works.
Reply:Pain is a signal of infection or something hitting a nerve. I am sorry but this is not going to get any better, only worse. You need to find a way to go to dentist as there may be infection. You will need antibiotics, as there may be an abscess, or infected pocket.
For the moment, put some ice in a washcloth and put that in that area of your face, just to kind of numb the part of your face. At the drugstore, they sell over-the-counter products like Orajel to provide numbing also, but these, too, are short-term. You can also take Tylenol for pain control, but this, too, is just a momentary fix.
If I were in your situation, with no money or insurance, I would go to the emergency room of a public hospital. It will be a long wait, so bring a book, but I think they have to help you. I think you also will have to play it up big, perhaps exaggerating a bit how bad you feel so they don't send you away.
Good luck with this -- write back if you can, to let us know how you made out.
Reply:You should really go to a doctor for the infection because you don't want to end up with more of an infection. If you wait, the infection can spread to other areas of your body and cause some really nasty and I mean REALLY nasty complications that will cost a lot more than a doctor's visit will run you right now. A doctor's visit in the US should cost you between 50 and 100 dollars and you can call around to see what a regular office visit costs. You can also check in your area to see if there's a free clinic or a low cost clinic that you can go to. Don't forget to let the doctor know that you have very little money and no insurance so they won't prescribe a costly antibiotic - some offices actually have samples that they can give you so you don't have to pay for the prescription at all. When the infection goes, the pain will go also. In the meantime see if the doctor will give you something for the pain for a couple of days. After you're done with the infection then you should go to the dentist when you can afford it to have your tooth examined.

Anyone have a good tip for toothache?
Last night I had a terrible toothache from 12 at night until 4 in the morning, I did not sleep and have a 2 month old baby to look after so I am taking real strain, I know the best is to go to a dentist, but I cant at 2 in the morning, any good tips to sooth it????????
Anyone have a good tip for toothache?
Drinking some warm tea always works for my toothaches.
Reply:always do regular check ups with your dentist
Reply:do you have ambesol??? cloves are good... if you do a warm rinse with salt and take an ibuprofen that may help alieviate the pain
Reply:The gel that you can get for toothaches works ok, but I have found swishing chloraseptic spray (the stuff they make for sore throats) works best of all. The active ingredient in both is an oral numbing agent, and if you need to numb a tooth, it just makes more sense to use something thin that can be forced between all the little nooks, right? I have killed very intense toothache pain using this method. Good luck!
Reply:Well, if you want to try some Indian home remedy, then try chewing some cloves. Let the juice touch the affected tooth.
Reply:It's kinda tastes nasty but it helps ,it's called RED CROSS!You can buy it at walmart!
Reply:please go to the dentist, it's hard enough looking after a small baby but if your tooth needs attention , it will just keep nagging and you need your sleep to look after your baby. Ask someone to look after your baby or even take the baby with you and they will help you at the dentist, you may be eligible for free treatment. Good luck.
Reply:keep clove oil on and, and motrin.
Reply:oragel, i suggest you make a dentist appt asap

30 weeks pregnant and bad toothache?
I have a terrible toothache and didn't get much sleep last night because of it. I can't get into the dentist until tomorrow, does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do for the pain until then?
30 weeks pregnant and bad toothache?
I had this SAME problem a few weekes ago...(but they couldn't get me in for about 4 days. I lived off off orejel and anbesol. My advise is to put it on the painful spot, let it sit for a minute and then swish it a little. DON'T SWALLOW! swish and spit. I swallowed on accident once and it made me so sick tp my stomach!! BLEH!! I ended up needing a root canal if that tells ya how bad the pain was. Try it...and some tylenol too! GOOD LUCK HUN!
Reply:Tylenol or try orajel.
Reply:the doctors say tylenol is safe... give your dr a quick call and tell them whats going on.. ask what you can take.. they can tell you over the phone
Reply:Can't your dentist see you as an emergency, let him know you are pregnant. Call your OB/GYN and ask him if you can take something for the pain like Tylenol.
Reply:one thing i always say, i would rather have the pain of childbirth than a toothache...try tylenol and put a warm rag on your jaw.
Reply:you r not going to believe this but you need to take calcium ask your Doctor.i bet your not taking your vitamins

Just been to dentist today
£152 for clean and 2 fillings
THAT HURT MY BANK BALANCE
Reply:you might want to see your family dr. sometimes an antibiotic can help..............not a permanant help! sorry
Reply:Only a dentist can "cure" it, but if you let an aspirin disolve on the problem tooth, it will help for a while.
Reply:rub ice between thumb and forefinger and thumb it will numb tooth, until ibprofen takes effect also my dentist told me to start with three 200 pills- still less than 800 mg she prescribes.
Reply:Kristy, you have to go to the dentist.

Reply:Tylenol should help. Also try rubbing some Anbesol gel on the tooth.
Reply:It might be wise to check your teeth for cavities, and if you have any, then it is best to see a dentist. A toothache can be an indicator of more serious problems. An absessed tooth can cause an infection that can damage the brain, leading to death if not dealt with. I don't have anything against pain medication, but covering up a problem does not make it go away.
Reply:The best advice anyone can give you is to get to a dentist and get the toothache taken care once and for all. All the other "remedies" will only prolong your misery and won't get to the source of your problem. Call a trusted friend, ask them who their dentist is and go. Putting it off will only make it worse and harder to treat
Reply:Clove oil - or tie a piece of string around the offending tooth and the other end to a door knob - then slam it shut - tooth out - end of tooth ache
Reply:you don't you have to see a dentist there could be something wrong you're only making worse by waiting
Reply:Well I work in a Pharmacy and dentists usually prescribe Co-codamol or Voltarol for that kind of stuff.
Reply:I know the dentist seems scary but they really try to make it as comfortable for you as possible. Sometimes you can request medication to help you relax. Tell then your fears and they will understand. You can take some headphones to block out the sound. But your tooth will not get better without treatment.
Reply:Try using clove oil, dabbing the oil with an ear bud around the painful tooth and gum area. and that should ease the pain for a while.
Reply:Clove oil will help to relieve the pain. But masking it is really not going to help. You need to go and see your dentist, and the sooner the better.
Reply:obviously pain killers, try nuroefen ultra but if that doesn't work get Victory V Lozenges - they numb your mouth up and you don't feel the pain.
Reply:Wear a blindfold, ear stoppers too... have fun.
Reply:If you have a filling that has fallen out then take ibuprofen and go to Boots dental section - they have a small kit with a tiny pot of dentists filling material, a cotton bud and a toothpick! Its really easy to use and lasts for a few weeks until you can get to a dentist.
Also don't use clove oil apparently it burns the gum tissue. (asked a dentist).
Reply:Paramol is fantastic for tooth ache
Reply:Why would you want to go around in pain and end up with unsightly rotting teeth? Surely you will have to go to the dentist at some point in your life? Now would seem the perfect time. Go to the dentist............you won't regret it.
Reply:Going to the dentist is a lot less painful than toothache
Reply:Oil of cloves might help. Or if you think you have an infection rinse your mouth with hot water and salt.
Reply:No way to get around it, the only way you are going to get rid of the toothache is to see a dentist. With a toothache you only have 2 choices. You can remove the tooth (not a good idea) or fix it. There are a lot of dentists that are sensitive to people with dental fear. Look for a dentist that does sedation. You can get the treatment you need and not care where you are or what they are doing.
Reply:pain killers
Reply:Oil of cloves but, it is best to get it checked. I had really bad toothache last year which turned out to be an abscess and I was told I caught in time just before it turned Gangrenous and spread to my jaw.
Reply:oil of cloves will work temporary
Reply:Yes l know how you feel l to hate the dentist For the past five years l have had 2 abscess and 4 fillings which need sorting
At the moment l am using orajel rapid relief of toothache (can be bought in tesco) and l have just got this Singapore medicine smells like Vic you just put on cotton ear bud and rub onto tooth or gums and this Will numb the area. Or you can bye some fresh ginger and bit on the ginger this will also numbs the pain other than that if really bad go to doctors say you have chest infection for 4/5 weeks then they will give antibiotics don't tell your doctor that it is your tooth as they will say see dentist as they don't like to give out antibiotics. Other than that take your chances with a dentist if you can find one!! and then when you do you will be lucky to find a dentist that understands you and speaks ENGLISH good luck

How do I know if its a sinus toothache?
I had a cold from thursday-sunday
saturday night i had a sinus headache then starting sunday sinus pain on the right side of my nose and part of my face.
monday my upper teeth on the right side started hurting as well, is it a sinus toothache? or by coincidence could i have a cavity? the pain came on suddenly and in multiple teeth on the right upper side. BUT i dont take the absolute besyt care of my teeeth and havent had a checup in awhile.
teeth rarely hurt when i eat this week.
is it a sinus toothache or a regular tootache?
thanks!
How do I know if its a sinus toothache?
I'm almost certain it's just your sinus, especially with your just getting over a cold. To see if there is a chance that it may be a cavity, take a toothpick or something pointy (yet not tooo pointy) and gently jab the tooth hurting from the bottom (not in the gumline but on chewing surface). If it hurts very bad, then it may be a cavity. If not, 99.99% chance it isn't! Hope You Feel Better!!
Reply:no difference
Reply:Sounds like sinus, but if your teeth are starting to hurt it usually means you are getting a sinus infection and may need an antibiotic. In the meantime, take a decongestant/sinus med. If it does not pass after the sinus trouble, may need to have it checked. Also, your dentist can check the tooth and sinus for you and tell you what it is. As well as prescribe antibiotics for a sinus infection if needed. It could be both though if you have not had a checkup in a while. The sinus trouble can aggravate the tooth or the tooth can aggravate the sinus.
Reply:Actually, if it's in your eyes, ears, nose and throat, chances are your teeth (or gums, probably) are aching from that. When your cold goes away, if the toothache persists, you'll know it's something else. I know, though, that my gums ache just as badly as the rest of my head and neck when my sinus' kick in (which they always do when I have a cold).
Reply:Sounds like sinus to me. Hope you feel better soon.
Reply:I get these a lot. That sounds EXACTLY like a sinus toothache. They're pretty common after a cold/sinus infection. If it doesn't go away in a few days though you should see a dentist. Hope you feel better!
Reply:If you are having pain in your sinus it is most likly having an effect on your teeth but if the pain is very bad you most likely have an infected tooth or teeth and if you rinse your mouth with warm salt water for about 30 seconds it should help but long term you need some antibiotics
Reply:If its multiple teeth, and all of a sudden its most likely a sinuses putting pressure on the teeth. I love Tylenol sinus/allergy. I hate that its behind the counter but if I couldn't get it, I think I'd have to move to another state.
Reply:Sounds like a sinus infection, try going to the pharmacy and getting a bottle of Alkalov. It is a natural way of cleaning out your sinuses. I put some in a small cup and stick my nose in it and breathe the liquid in my nose like a straw. Don't worry it won't go down in your lungs or anything like that. The first time you do it it will definately get your attention. It will work it's way to your sinus cavities and "disinfect" them.
**For real- give it a try. Of course read the label first so you can be comfortable that this is not a hoax.- It works!!! It comes in a brown bottle and usually the pharmacist gives it to you from behind the counter.

Owwww! I have a HUGE toothache! Help!?
I HAVE A HUGE TOOTHACHE!!! OWWWWWWW!!! I DONT HAVE DENTAL INSURANCE!!!, I'VE TRIED PULLING IT, BUT IT WONT WORK. WHAT SHOULD I DO. SEVERE SENSITIVITY TO COLD AND HOT ON 3 TEETH IN MY MOUTH. HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR WEEKS, NOW IT'S REALLY BAD.
HELP!!!!!!!!

Depending on where you live, a county hospital that has an oral surgery department should have a free clinic that does extractions. You should check to see if there is one in your area. If not for free, there should be clinics for low-income patients that charge a small nominal fee for that procedure. You could also try to see if there is a dental school in your area, where you drop in as an emergency patient for a fee to have your teeth extracted. Hope that helps
Reply:I'm a Registered Dental Assistant: Any time anything in your mouth hurts as bad as you say it does. It's time for you to go see the Dentist. I understand you don't have insurance, but once you let them know they will work w/you and put you on a payment plan. You don't have to pay the whole fee at once. You can start out w/small payments. They'll explain everything to you before anything it's done. So you don't have to feel obligated. Honey, please take care of your precious teeth. They're the only ones you get. Plus, teeth are a huge part of you when someone starts losing their teeth it affects them emotionally. You're tooth may be dying %26amp; may need a root canal. Since nothing has been done about it the pain/discomfort is traveling to the teeth next to it. Until a Dentist look at %26amp; tell you what's going on or tell you what to do about the pain. Reply:you tried pulling your own tooth??? are you nuts???? great way to get a severe infection. go to your hospital emergency room, i am sure they have programs there for people who dont have insurance. the pain wont go away on its own.
Reply:Keep calling different dentists and ask them if they can put you on a payment plan. If they can give you a root canal, DO IT! Root canals are better than extractions because extractions leave a gap in your gums that makes your other teeth move and get messed up.
A root canal will save your tooth!

37 weeks pregnant with a toothache. Help?
I have had a toothache since yesterday. The dentist isn't open and I have taken Tylenol and abesol and nothing is helping. If I went to the emergency room would they be able to do anything for me?
37 weeks pregnant with a toothache. Help?
Pretty much all the ER will do is give you an antibiotic (in case it's infected/abscessed) and send you home in my experience. They usually do have an oral surgeon on call, so if it was a life threatening situation, they would be able to pull the tooth and/or drain the abscess, but it's unlikely they would need to do that. I know it's awful, but really waiting for the dentist is best - it's most likely a cavity that needs to be filled and nothing will resolve the problem but that.
Reply:Try orajel. It works wonders!
Reply:ER might but I'm not sure. If anything they'll give you hydrocodone. That's what they gave me when I was having really bad "Round Ligament Pain" (severe cramping).
Reply:They might, maybe give you something for the pain that is safe. Or gargle warm water and salt, or try oralgel.
Reply:The ER would not be able to help. Your dentist should be on call for emergencies. Also, please visit our fabulous pregnancy and mothers forum at www.supermoms.freeforums.org. We have a fabulous group of women that would love to help you!
Reply:possably, i had my tooth pulled in october and im now 37weeks and i had tooth ache a few weeks ago and i couldnt get to the emergancy dentist and pulled my own tooth!!
Reply:They probably wouldn't see you because a toothache is not that bad. Sorry to say. Try clove oil. Rub it on your gum and that should help.
Reply:Make sure your getting enough calcium. My teeth were aching all the time and I take xtra calcium now and they don't hurt.Other than that idk if you are supposed to take orajel but I have seen many answerers on here say it is fine to take, so I guess it would be alright. The emergency probably wouldn't be able to do anything for you I wouldn't think. They would only have pain medication to give you which you might not/might be able to take because you are pregnant right now. Good Luck.
Reply:If you cannot get ahold of your dentist, the ER can provide temporary relief until monday. Meaning they can do pain relief and antibiotics if there is an infection but they won't be able to correct the cause of the problem. If you are to uncomfortable go in.
Reply:i dont know but im 25 weeks pregnant and i was told you cant take ANY medicine during pregnancy
Reply:The ER can't help you with a toothache. Isn't there an after hours number at your dentist? Surely some dentist will see you.

How to cure my terrible toothache?!?
I have a severe toothache in my bottom molar. It hurts so badly that I couldn't eat dinner, and i haven't gotten any sleep yet (its 5 AM now). Now all I can do is cry because it hurts like hell, nothing I have ever felt before. I tried EVERYTHING (clove oil, all OTC toothpain meds, extracts, salt water, H2O2, therapies, messages, onions, garlic, nyquil, dayquil, motrin, advil EVERYTHING), and the dentist won't see me until a week from now. It hurts so bad that I can't do anything. I really want to pull it out. What should I do?!! PLEASE HELP!
How to cure my terrible toothache?!?
Did you try flossing and then brushing your teeth? I know that sounds stupid.... But sometimes it helps. There just might be a piece of food trapped in there adding to the pain. Try that....rinse with warm salty water. Take some really strong pain medicine....something that will help you sleep. Wrap your head and face with a scarf...this is to block out the air from hitting your face---or your mouth. This has always helped me....always.
Do something to distract yourself until you get sleepy enough to pass out. Something boring and very repetitive....like playing a video game.....or solitaire.... I don't know what...Just find something. Call the dentist and tell them it's a darned emergency and you can't wait a whole week.... Get mad if you have to. If you don't, it could end up being the longest week of your life.. Good luck, Granny B.

or u can take medicine like painkiller(ponstan).
Reply:it hurts because it is infected
go get some antibiotics
and in any event DO NOT go to a farm store and buy some bovine penicillin and take it orally
Reply:Im a guy who had his wisdom teeth pulled without anistetic the only thing i could do for the pain was take a bath and submerge my head in the warm water as much as possible or use a hot water bottle for ten munites then an ice pack for ten munites and keep repeating
Reply:RUMAFEN tablet,my sister said it works, ask the pharmacist how to take it,cause i think you can take 2 tablet if its to much pain, and after that one tablet every 6 to 8 hours,i pray that you have pharmacy near at your place open 24 hours
Reply:Go to another dentist, mine will see me at the drop of a hat if it is an emergency.

If not, try taking ibuprofen which can be bought very cheaply from the pharmacy.
Ibuprofen reduces swelling and can often take the pain away from tooth ache by reducing the inflamation of the gum around it (I had an infected wisdom tooth a few weeks back and the dentist advised it, it worked a treat). It can also be taken at the same time as paracetamol, try holding a single paracetamol tablet between your teeth in the affected area. This tastes disgusting, so try ibuprofen first before this.
Reply:ibuprofen is the best medicine it reduces swelling as well as killing the pain. A lot of your pain right now is caused by swelling, so give it a try. It always works wonders for me! I also recommend gargling with strong salt water as this helps draw out the infection. or you can try amoxicillin

I'm worried about a toothache infection spreading to my heart I keep hearing horror stories but let me explain
As of now it's currenty thursday 1-10-08, my toothache started last friday. I pretty much had to go the entire weekend in horrible pain. Monday I went to a MD and he prescribed me cleocin (clindamycin) and as of now the swelling how gone done alot, pain is almost virtually gone, but I'm waking up in little sweat puddles. Is this normal? is my body fighting the infection? I just don't want to NOT wake up because this spread to my heart. I would be under the impression that the infection is now under control considering the loss of swelling and pain. Please, any insight to this matter would be greatly appreciated. Those horror stories kinda have me on edge. Thank you very much.
I'm worried about a toothache infection spreading to my heart I keep hearing horror stories but let me explain
I would call your doc to make sure that is a normal side effect from the medication.
Reply:You have done all the right things, don't worry, that kind of thing would take much longer and would have been ignored for a while.
The next step is to go to a dentist and have the problem fixed.
Do this and you will be fine --Don't worry and good luck!!!
(yes, all of that sounded normal- you had an infection and your body and medication were trying to fight it--and it sounds like it is much better.)
Reply:Relax. It could be side affects, or you stressing out over those horror stories.
It's now 2008, stuff like that doesn't happen anymore
Just relax and call your doctor, he'll fill you in on why that's happening
Reply:Discontinue the medication immediately. Call your doctor and get a new prescription to address the issue of the tooth. You really should be visiting a dentist or oral surgeon to get the best prescription for your specific tooth problem.
Reply:Jesus go to the Dentist not an MD. You should be more worried about it spreading to your brain then your heart. Tooth infections can kill you if you don't get treatment. An MD is not going to be able to help as much. Go to the Dentist NOW!!!
Reply:My brother is a dentist.
He tells me that they are trained to see many diseases by checking the health of the mouth.
Go to a dentist.
Reply:It's naive to think that "things like this don't happen" in this day and age, but it is most probable that the infection will not spread to your heart. The sweats you are waking up in are probably caused because your body is fighting infection, but in your mouth only. Dental disease can be a sign of more serious problems, but it sounds like you and your doctor have things under control.

How do you supress a toothache for up to 24 hours?
I've got a problem. I have a toothache so severe that I feel the pain all the way up to my ear and all the way down to the front of my jaw. Is there any way I can ease the pain long enough until tomorrow's dentist appointment?
Please respond ASAP. Thank you.
How do you supress a toothache for up to 24 hours?
If the pain is that intense you need to let the dentist know NOW! If the tooth is infected the infection could become so bad you need IV antibiotics. If you have been to the dentist there before they should be able to call you something in. If not you should go to the emergency room.
Reply:VODKA, swish it around in your mouth, and of course swallowing helps as well. my wife cracked a tooth and had to wait 3 days before she could get in. The Vodka was almost like a numbing shot according to her.
Reply:I had a simular experience a while ago and this is what helped me. First I brushed and then took a long rinse with listerine. The listerine acted as a sterilizing force and helped dramatically. So much so I rinsed about a half dozen times a day to help with the tooth.
Second, per my dentiast I took both a Tylenol and a motrin (or advil) together. They told me it was the equivalent of a vicidan and that helped too. Obviously you don’t want to do this for a long period of time but when my pain got bad that is what I did and it helped.
I think the Listerine eventually killed my toothache because I still have not fixed the tooth. I just know it felt a whole lot better after rinsing with Listerine. Hope it works for you.
PS: The vodka idea is the same as listerine - they contain alchohol which sterilizes. I would stick with listerine over booze. Cops won't pull you over if your breath smells like listerine.
Reply:i take sleeping pills to relieve the pain... take also dolfenal....
Reply:In Australia, we have something called Nyal "Toothache Drops" - it tastes gross but it will numb the tooth.
Either that, try oil of cloves I think it's called.
Go to your chemist and ask for some toothache drops. Seriously! Go!

Seriously! Go!

Hill Burton Hotline
1-800-638-0742
(1-800-492-0359 in Maryland)
In 1946, Congress passed a law that gave hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities grants and loans for construction and modernization. In return, they agreed to provide a reasonable volume of services to persons unable to pay and to make their services available to all persons residing in the facility’s area. The program stopped providing funds in 1997, but about 300 health care facilities nationwide are still obligated to provide free or reduced-cost care.
Steps to Apply for Hill-Burton Free or reduced-cost Care
1. Find the Hill-Burton obligated facility nearest you from the list of Hill-Burton obligated facilities.
2. Go to the facility's admissions or business office and ask for a copy of the Hill-Burton Individual Notice. The Individual Notice will tell you what income level makes you eligible for free or reduced-cost care, what services might be covered, and exactly where in the facility to apply.
3. Go to the office listed in the Individual Notice and say you want to apply for Hill-Burton free or reduced-cost care. You may need to fill out a form.
4. Gather any other required documents (such as a pay stub to prove income eligibility) and take or send them to the obligated facility.
5. If you are asked to apply for Medicaid, Medicare, or some other financial assistance program, you must do so.
6. When you return the completed application, ask for a Determination of Eligibility. Check the Individual Notice to see how much time the facility has before it must tell you whether or not you will receive free or reduced-cost care.
More about Hill-Burton Free or Reduced-Cost Care
You are eligible to apply for Hill-Burton free care if your income is at or below the current HHS Poverty Guidelines. You may be eligible for Hill-Burton reduced-cost care if your income is as much as two times (triple for nursing home care) the HHS Poverty Guidelines.
Care at a Hill-Burton obligated facility is not automatically free or reduced-cost. You must apply at the admissions or business office at the obligated facility and be found eligible to receive free or reduced-cost care. You may apply before or after you receive care -- you may even apply after a bill has been sent to a collection agency.
Some Hill-Burton facilities may use different eligibility standards and procedures.
Hill-Burton facilities must post a sign in their admissions and business offices and emergency room that says: NOTICE - Medical Care for Those Who Cannot Afford to Pay, and they must provide you with a written Individual Notice that lists the types of services eligible for Hill-Burton free or reduced-cost care, what income level qualifies for free or reduced-cost care and how long the facility may take in determining an applicant's eligibility.
Only facility costs are covered, not your private doctors' bills. Facilities may require you to provide documentation that verifies your eligibility, such as proof of income.
Hill-Burton facilities must provide a specific amount of free or reduced cost care each year, but can stop once they have given that amount. Obligated facilities publish an Allocation Plan in the local newspaper each year. The Allocation Plan includes the income criteria and the types of services it intends to provide at no cost or below cost. It also specifies the amount of free or reduced cost services it will provide for the year.
When you apply for Hill-Burton care, the obligated facility must provide you with a written statement that tells you what free or reduced-cost care services you will get or why you have been denied.
The facility may deny your request if
· Your income is more than the income specified in the Allocation Plan.
· The facility has given out its required amount of free care as specified in its Allocation Plan.
· The services you requested or received are not covered in the facility's Allocation Plan.
· The services you requested or received are to be paid by a governmental program such as Medicare/Medicaid or insurance.
· The facility asked you to apply for Medicare/Medicaid or other governmental program, and you did not.
· You did not give the facility proof of your income, such as a pay stub.
You may file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services if you believe you have been unfairly denied Hill-Burton free or reduced-cost care. Your complaint must be in writing and can be a letter that simply states the facts and dates concerning the complaint. You may call your local legal aid services for help in filing a complaint.

Is everyone guaranteed to get toothache?
I was told that everyone is guaranteed to get toothache, but I don't think that's necessarily true. Is it?
Is everyone guaranteed to get toothache?
no. everyone is different and people perceive pain differently.
what feels like a toothache to one might not even phase someone else.

6 year old with a toothache?
My 6 year old daughter has a bad toothache, I called her dentist but they don't do emergency appts. the soonest he could see her is wednesday. What do I do in the mean time, I've tried motron and that hasn't been working. Oralgel isn't working either. She is also sick, with a fever and bad stomach ache, and the dentist told me even if it's a cavity he can't fill it until her fever is broke, he can't numb her unless she is healthy. So what can I do for her?
6 year old with a toothache?
See if you can get in to see her doctor...It sounds as if she has an infection (the fever is a bad sign). If she does, then the doctor should be able to provide an antibiotic, which should help fairly quickly. If she doesn't have an infection, then the doctor can confirm that the fever %26amp; stomach ache are unrelated to the tooth issue, and address them separately.
Reply:i agree with the other poster, call her pediatrician and have him see her asap. Then Call a different dentist to see if they will see her, I hate dentissts that dont do emergencyappt. what the hell are they there for and it;s cruel to make a kid wait.
Some ER's have Emergency dental. See you yours does.
Reply:I'm sorry to hear of your predicament.
It is totally untrue to say he can't treat her until her fever has broken. That has absolutely nothing to do with the local anaesthesia. Ring around and see if you can get another dentist.

Fast ways to relieve a toothache at home?
what are some fast natural ways to stop a toothache or make the pain not so bad?
Fast ways to relieve a toothache at home?
rinse with warm salt water, take a couple of ibuprofen, get the heating pad out and lay on it. Peroxide rinse, although the salt water rinse seems to work better for me.
Orajel if you have it, Cloroseptic throat spray can work temporarily as well. Alum for pickeling will also numb the pain temporarily.
See your dentist ASAP
Reply:Take a whole clove and hold it between your teeth, where your tooth is bothering you. The clove oil has a gentle, numbing effect. Sounds weird, really works.
Reply:Dont know anything natural...but Ibuprofen really helps or Oragel. Ibuprofen especially because it is an anti inflammatory and it reduces the swelling causing the pain. If you dont like these suggestions try sucking on ice till it is numb.
Reply:Depends on the cause. For things like an exposed nerve from a cavity I found that gargling ice cold saltwater can help numb the pain for a short period of time.
You could also try clove oil which can help numb the area around the tooth for non cavity related pain.
Ibruprofen also help.
Reply:you know the spice 'clove'. put a couple of those where it hurts, usually on the gum. hold it on with your finger when it gets soft rub it along the gum a bit. or you can buy clove oil from local supermarket or chemist. Rinse mouth out with salty warm boiled water oftern. you can also rub a bit of alcohol on the tooth and gum... scotch/whiskey whatever.
Reply:Brush your teeth really good to get rid of anything that may be causing the pain........Ambesol.....some type of pain relieve(Tylenol, Aspirin, etc.,). If those don't work, you may have an abscess and need to go to the dentist and get started on antibiotics and narcotic pain relievers.
Reply:For temporary relief, get clove oil and rub where it hurts, if no oil just bite on a clove.
BUT see a dentist as where there is pain there is a problem and without the correct help it could get much worse.
Reply:my father is a dentist and he says you can drink cold water and then drink hot water then cold then hot hope it helps.
Reply:Clove oil:Is great to use for toothaches. Apply a little on the affected tooth for some time and then rinse with warm water. Boil 5 grams of fresh peppermint in 1 cup water with a little salt. And rinse mouth well with this .Peppermint is an antiseptic and contains menthol which relives pain .Try out http://useinfo-dentalcare.blogspot.com/ for more details.

Please help! I had a toothache, was x-rayed, no decay, said tooth was cracked, had a crown done.?
A temp crown was put on until permanent crown came in. I had alot of pain with the temp crown, so i told the dentist and they x-rayed again and still saw no decay. They said the temp crown was probably too high (it was) and when i slept in was probably grinding and pushing on temp so it was bruising the ligament, thus causing pain. So they put the permanent crown on Thursday and put me on antibiotics and pain pills (the pain pills made me nauseous) so I stopped taking them. I had no pain the day after until today and all of a sudden I'm getting the same toothache pain as in the very beginning. I am freaking out. Why am I in pain if the tooth is not decayed? If I take advil the pain goes away pretty quick, but I can't go on like this. I just can't understand why the tooth hurts if it's not decayed. Could there be another reason? I should've had a root canal but The dentist did'nt see any decay so I guess he did'nt think it was necessary. What is wrong and what should I do? Thanx so much
Please help! I had a toothache, was x-rayed, no decay, said tooth was cracked, had a crown done.?
If the pain continues, see your dentist, or another dentist for a second opinion.
If there is no decay, the crown may be out of place and putting pressure on your jaw - that would cause a lot of pain.
I had crowns done a few years ago, and the discomfort can last a while. One crown is still sensitive when I clench my teeth or brush, even. I use Crest Sensitivity toothpaste, which helps.
Your tooth has been battered and bruised with all that it's been through; so have your ligaments and bones. They may just need some time to heal. I hope that's all it is.
Reply:you either need the tooth pulled or a root canal, the tooth is probably cracked all the way to the nerve and if so the crown wont help, i am surprised the dentist didnt suggest this when he first crowned it

37 weeks pregnant with a toothache. Help?
I have had a toothache since yesterday. The dentist isn't open and I have taken Tylenol and abesol and nothing is helping. If I went to the emergency room would they be able to do anything for me?
37 weeks pregnant with a toothache. Help?
You shouldn't have to go to the hospital... Your dentist should have "off office hours". So when you call the office number there should be a way of getting hold of the doc. It may be left on the answering machine or answering service can page him/her. If need be, you should contact your OB/GYN and they should help you if you can't get a hold of the dentist. Good luck!!!!
Reply:go to the hospital they can give you a shot i had the same problem and it was the worst toothache of my life i even threw up i could not take it good luck sweetie
Reply:ther is usually a dentist on call at the hospital if you can not wait until tomarrow morning. if your obgyn says you can take ibuprophen it is an antiinflamitory so it might work better for your pain them tylenol

HELP!!! How to ease this toothache?
both of my wisdom tooth is aching. my gums are swollen on both sides. i can't undergo the surgery yet coz my exam is coming soon. the toothache causes fever too. i've taken painkillers and antibiotics but it's still painful and i'm still feverish. i feel like dying. i have to hold on for two weeks more. Gosh i really need to do my assignments and study 4 my exam next week. HELP!!!
HELP!!! How to ease this toothache?
I now this is the worst pain ever! but you will need to give the antibiotics time to kick in. which can be anything up to 3days once they take hold a lot of your discomfort will go.
What you Can do in the mean time is to use a "Very warm" Salt Water mouth this along with the pain killers will help in removing the "pressure" brought about by the infection.
Reply:If you have a fever, call the doctor. You may have an infection in there, especially with swelling. You may need a second dose of that antibiotic. Have you tried OTC ambesole? They have adult strength, not just baby strength. Keep up the pain killers too. Even if you must continue around the clock. It may make this process bearable.
Reply:you really should have the surgery ASAP.... your head is not a good place for infections to brew.
in the meantime, take advil for swelling, tylenol for fever, and use clove oil or Anbesol for gum pain in the short term (ie when you have to study or write the exam).
toothaches SUCK!
Reply:In my opinion I'd find another dentist. In my whole life (I'm 60) I've never gone to a dentist that will leave you in pain. Most will let you show up first thing in the morning on an emergency basis. The only problem you have right now is it's the weekend. Some will see emergencies on the weekend.
Reply:take a towel make it hot by using iron but remember don't make it too hot so it will burn your cheek .
Then put it on your cheek , i think it will work.:)
best luck for your exams!
Reply:Consult with a/your dentist
ambosol or oralgel extra strength
Motrin - ibuprofen for pain
-
clove oil
Tylenol - for fever
-
a heating pad
hot shower letting the water run on and around the outside of the area seems to help
it usually takes at least 3 days for the antibiotic to work
You might ask your dentist about Tylenol #3. (or something similar)
Tylenol #3 has a dash of codine for pain
Reply:Once the surgery is done, you'll have less pain than you have now and you certainly won't be suffering from an infection. The surgery is done in the office and the pain afterwards is not at all severe. Go and do it or you may be too sick to think, study, or even take your exams.
Reply:Dang girl ouch i really feel for you.You really need to get some better pain killers and not to scare you but you don't want to get an absess and have it bust up in there. For pain like that i wet an asprin just a drop and put it on the bad tooth and it will take a way most of the pain ffor a short while.
Reply:Peridontal disease also? I have rinsed a lot with salt water. Salt is a great leaching agent, helps take the swelling down. I have also self cleaned with a dental pick. May bleed but that also helps reduce the swelling. If they are that infected, the gums, pain pills usually do not help much. Try the above.
Reply:I've had all my wisdom teeth removed and it's really not a big deal. Not even a very painful recovery. If you are in a lot of pain then I would suggest that you go ahead and have them extracted because the pain you are going through right now will cause you more problems while studying and during your exam than the minor discomfort you will have after the extraction. Besides, they usually good pain meds after an extraction that work wonders and make you happy at the same time.
Reply:In terms of the pain, get some cotton wool, soak it in clove oil and put it on the tooth, it will soothe the pain trust me I know!!! It beats out half a bottle of brandy believe it or not!!
Keep in mind this is a temporary solution, you need to get it seen by a specialist as soon as possible especially if you are feverish, sounds like you've got an infection.
Love, you don't have 2 weeks. Your exams might be scr ewed. Can you not apply for a compassionate exemption? To not be able to is inhumane!!!
Reply:Your teeth are infected dear. You really, really need to call and see a doctor. In 2 weeks you could sincerely be in the hospital. Fever and swelling is serious.
You need to call to get special dispensation (a delay on your test due to illness), your doctor could vouch for this if it becomes necessary.
But you most definitely need medical evaluation.
What's going on inside the teeth areas is what's causing the pain. Having them removed is a breeze compared to where you are now. But infection can travel throughout the system in 2 weeks!
Reply:Please please please be very careful, I understand that finals are important, but when I was growing up I had a neighbor who went on vacation to Florida. While she was there she got an infection because of one of her teeth. She put off treatment until she got home, but by then it was too late. She ended up paralyzed and in a wheel chair for the rest of her life.
If you still have weeks until finals see if you can get an appointment now. Wisdom tooth extraction is really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I was back on my feet the next day. My mouth was a little sore, but not too bad.
Right now I have a kidney infection, and the fever %26amp; chills %26amp; aches %26amp; pains are killing me. I can't imagine living like this for another 2 weeks. It's horrible!! Please go see the dentist %26amp; get them removed!!

Ways to sooth a wisdom toothache?
I have an appointment to have my wisdom teeth extracted this coming Tuesday however that means I have to go through the whole weekend with this excruciating pain that I am in. I can't sleep, I can't chew, I can't think straight... My dentist gave me a prescription for vicodin to ease the pain but frankly it's doing nothing. It's only 5 mg and all it succeeded in doing is making me loopy and drowsy. I've been applying ora-gel like a champion and prior to my vicodin I was popping copious amounts of ibuprofin and swishing ice water around in my mouth. So what remedies can you think of to sooth this toothache so I can get some sleep tonight and function at work tomorrow? And my dentist only prescribed 1 vicodin per 4-6 hours but like I said it's not doing anything. Can I take more or does that make me a junkie? Thanks.
Ways to sooth a wisdom toothache?
I'd try two of the vicodin every 4-6 hours. You can also combine the vicodin with the ibuprofen, like one vicodin and 2 ibuprofen at the same time. Also - you can apply ice packs to the outside of your face around the painful area, alternating 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Use a scarf tied around your head (old fashioned mumps style) to hold the ice packs.
Reply:The only thing that worked for me was ibuprofin..
Reply:pour some Goody's powders or whatever the name is of the other one. Directly on the tooth and keep that there in your mouth on the tooth for as long as possible. OR maybe put an aspirin or tylenol directly on it. This'll keep you kind of ok until you get it yanked.
Reply:Take two or three vicodin, sleep with your head propped up and look up how to spell SOOTHE.
Sooth as in soothsayer: "Beware the Ides of March, Caesar."
Reply:Maybe perhaps gargle with salt water.
Reply:My dad taught me this one...get some ground cloves and rub it on your gums. Deadens the pain and gives you great smelling breath. Unfortunately, it wears off just like the Ora-jel does, but it's safe to use all day long, and it's cheaper. Bummer you have to wait so long. A pain in the mouth is the worst kind 'cause you are limited by what you can do to get relief. Hope this helps. %26lt;*)))%26gt;%26lt;
Reply:try taking a pain reliever such as Ponstan 250mg might work. hahaha! goodluck! ask your doctor first to be safe :)
Reply:Get a long sock or something, and fill it with small bags of frozen peas. Now wrap this around your face, along your jawline. You can also do this once you have them extracted, because believe me, it's just as bad. Ibpruofen also really helps, so keep it up and don't wait for them to wear off before taking another. Whilst sleeping, prop a pillow to one side of you so you don't lie flat; trust me, it works. And don't sleep with less than two pillows as it will take off the blood pressure.

Filing in tooth near nerve...toothache HELP?
ok so i got an xray and my filing is so near to my nerve that i am having toothache. I went to dentist and he give me drugs but i doubt this will kill the pain forever or will it?
Filing in tooth near nerve...toothache HELP?
the pain will only last a few days or so. then it may be sensitive for a few weeks when you eat but your mouth will heal itself.
Reply:Hi,the pain should go away if it doe's not then go back to the dentist.Good Luck
Reply:when u filled it... if in the last week or the last 10 days... it's normal fo feel fain, mainly on cold.....
but if it is month or more ago.... it should be retreated and i think it needs root canal treatment....
Reply:Don't worry about it, just trust your dentist! And maybe avoid sugar... That way you won't have to go through it again!
Reply:Mr Dental is right, the same thing happened to me, I had to have a filling because one of my teeth was extremely sensitive, I was concerned about a filling not working and having to have a root canal, but luckily the filling worked.
It is best to avoid eating on that side for as long as possible to give the filling chance to set, I think I was so apprehensive because of the pain I had previously suffered with.
But if you do have a filling and after a couple of weeks it doesn't make your tooth feel any better, be prepared to be told you need a root canal.
Good luck.
Reply:Go to the drugstore (or if you are lucky, send someone for you!) and get some of the products used to help babies as they are teething.
I know it sounds weird, but there are gels that you can put right on the gums or on the tooth, and they do help. Also, pick up a tube of Sensodyne toothpaste - it'll help as well.
And an old wives tale, that seems to work, is to prepare a small glass of warm salted water with a litttle white vinegar in it, and rinse your mouth. Rinse all around the area. There is a product called aspergum, but I don't think it will help you.
You know, one other thing might help, and it has to do with your sinus cavities -- mine rest too low and sometimes make my teeth hurt. If you are congested, it can cause a problem with pain too.
Then if the pain cannot be controlled, be prepared for a root canal. It's expensive, time consuming, but sometimes it is the only answer.
If the pain gets too bad, call the dentist right away and have him look at it. I had a root canal that bothered me for years -- and when it was redone, they discovered a small stick had been left in the canal.
Dentists can do root canals, but I would never have one done there. Go to specialists -- a dentist may do 10 root canals in a year, but a specialist will do that many in a few days. The skills really show when your teeth no longer hurt.
Reply:you shouldnt have a filling touch a nerve. dentist need to redo the filling
Reply:Maybe, many times a filling put near a nerve can be sensitive to cold for long periods of time. Mine was sensitive for almost a year. Did not normally keep me up at night though. White fills are especially common for this to happen. The medicine may be enough to calm the tooth so it can heal and be fine or it may not be. If it starts to be extremely hot sensitive you may have a problem. Give it some time, but if it is keeping you up at night and unbearable it probably needs a root canal. Mine was mainly sensitive with cold drinks for about 1 year and very sensitive almost all the time the first 14 days.
Reply:There is no telling if the tooth ache will go away for ever, to nerve/pulp inside your tooth may be dieing, and if this is so, you will need a root filling, don't be too alarmed this is a routine procedure, normally takes 2/3 visits, and wont hurt any more than a normal filling,
Or on the other hand it may just fade away and you will be pain free. Hope this helps, and you will be OK soon.

I have a special yet sensitive case because my mouth doesnt open very much, dont know what the problem is but its been like that over 4 years, the dentist have to use kids equipment, its a real difficulty in my life.
I will prayer for you.

What is good for a toothache besides orajel and anbesol?
i have a toothache and the dentist don't open until monday. i am in extreme pain. what do you reccomend?
What is good for a toothache besides orajel and anbesol?
are u allergic to any medication? are you taking any meds? if not, you may try motrin, which is ibuprofen. it is available in every pharmacy. it comes in 200mg. you can take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain. it can help with the pain and inflammation. but make sure that you take it with food or milk. b/c it can be strong to your stomach.
if ibuprofen alone doesn't do any good. it is ok to take it with tylenol. if it is still not working, call up your dentist. there might be an after hour help line.
and you have to go check with your dentist on monday!
Reply:Rub some strong alcohol on it..
Reply:ORTHODONTIST
Reply:I can relate....went through hell and back. So I'll tell you the only thing that will help...go to any drug store or Walmart and ask for IB-Profin. It comes under many brands and it works....30 minutes after taking IB-Profin you will feel relief. Hang in there :)
Reply:swish vodka (from freezer or on rocks) around mouth. Drink and repeat until pain is gone!
Reply:go to ne health food store and ask for sumthing called clove oil. it tastes kinda like black licorice, and it will burn a lil bit, but u just put it on a q-tip and rub it on ur tooth, and it works.
Reply:oil of clove, powdered clove or a whole clove(baking section of food store)
Reply:dissolve an aspirin (or other) in a little water.. (make a paste, and put it on the area).. it'll work for a minute or two.........but honey.. you are GONNA HAVE to go to the dentist..............
Reply:i've heard of breaking an aspirin in half and placing a piece right on the painful area. it dissolves and numbs the area. tasted nasty, but worth a try.
Reply:do you have a dentist you go to regularly? you can call him/her and they will come in for emergencies. if you are not a patient of record somewhere, you may have trouble finding a doc to come in on the weekend. you can go to the ER, and they could possibly prescribe pain meds for you if its to terrible to wait for monday. the spreading of the aspirin on your gum works the same as if you swallow it, only a little bit faster relief. don't do this too much, or you may irritate your gums, getting an "aspirin burn".
Reply:you can take four ibueprofen and wash you mouth out completely clean with salt water! just had that problem!!!

A crazy question about a toothache?
two nights ago i woke up with a terrible toothache my top right third tooth from the back was killing me no throb, no sharp pain it just hurt bad, i went through the day with orajel and asprin last night the pain stopped, and this morning i woke up and the tooth next to it hurts like crazy when i bite something (the other tooth just hurt all the time but i could bite and chew) so know i cant understand how one tooth stopped and the other one started, the pain is even different, both teeth have fillings (the one from today is rather recent) anybody got any ideas as to why?
A crazy question about a toothache?
You have a cold. Sinus congestion causes this.
Reply:A nerve has probably been irratated. Go to the dentist. Do you grind your teeth at night?
Reply:You so crazy!!!!!!
Reply:If you have a hot tooth it is often difficult to locate precisely. Of course you may have 2 distinct dental problems, but this would be quite a coincidence.
As mentioned by someone else sinus problems can cause pain that seems to come from the upper molars, but this will not usually make the teeth acutely tender to biting pressure (there may however be a dull soreness when chewing).
You'll need to go to your dentist, I'm afraid.

Does Whiskey really help a toothache?
i've heard so many weird remedies on curing a toothache, even root canal pain. Like squeezing the skin in between your thumb and pointer finger for 30 secs. Or taping a piece of garlic to your arm. What other weird remedies have you guys heard, that actually workds? Oh yea, the squeezing the skin one worked for me. ;)
Does Whiskey really help a toothache?
Alcohol absorbs through the skin and particularly through the gums, so it should help as far as pain relief, but I don't think it helps cure the problem that caused the pain.
Reply:it does if you wash it down with pain killers,
or just orajel its what the dentist use to freeze you gum so you feel no pain

Reply:Whiskey will numb the gums around the tooth so that will make it feel better!! My mother used to put it on the babies gums when they were teething..I know its probably child abuse, lol, but it worked!! Oh yeah, forgot to mention..dont drink it, just rub it on the gums..lol..
Reply:whiskey is a gr8 remedie for toothache.. it will tranquelise the nervs of the mouth and no pain will be feeled for sometime..
Reply:The best remedy for a toothache is a visit to the dentist. Using pain killers only delays the inevitable. Until the source of the pain is dealt with, it won't go away.
Reply:whiskey does help cuz it numbs it if its really bad rub a little coke on it the pain will go away like that, tastes like **** though.
and i dont mean coke like soda i mean what mac dre sings about.
Reply:Of course if you drink Whiskey it will take the pain away. Once you have a good buzz going on you'll forget all about the tooth ache. : ) Oh, and I don't have any weird remedies for a toothache, but I heard that if you have the hick-ups take a small string (off of your own clothing), ball it up in your mouth and stick it right in the middle of your forehead. No joke! I've tried it and it does work...Simply because your mind is so focused on the string you totally forget about the hick-ups.

by take suitable precautions. Avoid eating
food which will result in the formation of acid
in the mouth, brush teeth regularly with a fluoride
toothpaste. I found the information at

No joke! I've tried it and it does work...Simply because your mind is so focused on the string you totally forget about the hick-ups.

Why would Benzocaine make a toothache hurt worse?
I have a cracked wisdom tooth which began hurting very badly a couple of nights ago. So, I bought some Oragel to put on it, which has always worked in the past. Not this time, I may as well have put straight sugar on it, it hurt so bad, I started crying. I ran to the sink and washed it out, but it still made my toothache much worse than it had originally been. Why would it make the tooth hurt worse instead of numbing it?
Why would Benzocaine make a toothache hurt worse?
If the tooth is cracked you need it taken out. It's probably because it's been cracked over a period of time now and the nerve is getting infected. If that nerve is exposed and you put something on it, it will hurt. If the orajel was cold or hot it could have upset the nerve also. Get it taken out! It won't get better.
Reply:It sounds like the nerve is exposed and you probably have an abscess which has caused the onset of pain. An abscess is and infection and usually occurs when the nerve is damaged. If the nerve is exposed anything will set it off and make it hurt worse. Also if there is infection it may prevent numbing.
If your dentist did not put you on an antibiotic you should contact them again and let them how bad the pain is. If there is infection you may not numb very well for the extraction.
Reply:First of all, I'm sorry for your pain and hope that it's resolved soon. Topical Benzocaine is meant to be applied to mucosal surfaces so that it can be absorbed and provide peripheral anesthesia. The pulp tissue in a cracked tooth may already be hypersensitive and direct contact by the anesthetic was too much of an overload. The fact that the nerve responded confirms that the pulp tissue is vital, not abscessed as has been suggested. Do everything you can to kepp the crack from being exposed to noxious environmental agents. Perhaps your dentist could give you some orthodontic wax tobe carefully placed over the cracked area until the tooth is extracted. Good luck to you!
Reply:Most likely it is the temperature of the benzocaine that you placed that made the tooth so angry. The middle layer of teeth are composed of something called dentin. Dentin is composed of a bunch of tiny straws that are fluid filled. These straws lead directly to the nerve. Temperature change causes liquids to expand or shrink. That change in pressure causes pain on the nerve. Kina like when you put water into ice trays in the freezer, they come out as ice cubes but they are bigger, or when you place a soda in the freezer and it bursts when it freezes. Probly the bes thing you could do is to get some orthodontic wax and place over the tooth. It may hurt for a second but should help prevent transmition of changes in pressure until you get to the dentist.
