Do Dogs get toothache?

Do dogs get toothache

What is the best way to prevent decay and clean a dogs teeth

Do Dogs get toothache?
Yes, dog teeth are susceptible to decay and disease just like we are. There are foods and treats designed to aid in dental health, but the best thing you can do is brush your dog's teeth regularly. THey make beef and poultry flavored pastes and brushes that slide onto your finger to get in there and brush them with. If the dog seems uncomfortable with the brush, try just wrapping some gauze or cheese cloth around your finger and rubbing the paste on all the teeth. The other thing to do is speak to your vet about teeth cleaning. This is usually done under a mild anesthetic using scaling tools to remove tarter and plaque. Helps prevent decay, disease, gum disease, and infections. Best wishes.

In future give him/her chews/biscuits.

There is also dog toothpaste.
Reply:Yep they do. Kibble prevents buildup. You can also get dental rusks/chewing things for your dog from any supermarket.
Reply:yes, dog is also get toothache. That is why it is adviseable also to brush his teeth regularly, or give him big bone, it is to strengthen his jaw and at the same time he is cleaning his teeth. calcium is to be given also.
Reply:Yes, dogs can get tooth aches just like you and me.

You can get a tooth paste for dogs from your vet, and he or she will tell you how often you should brush your dog's teeth. Some dogs need to get their teeth brushed more often than others. It depends on a number of things, what they eat, how old they are, how often they use chew toys, etc. If your dog's teeth are not as white as they should be, your vet will tell you to brush them often to prevent any possible cavities from becoming bigger, and also to prevent any gum diseases from happening.

Feed your dog a good quality dry dog food, and give him or her chew toys and treats that are specifically made for cleaning a dogs teeth.

If you feed your dog canned food, then stop. That is one of the main reasons why dogs and puppies develop problems with their teeth.
Reply:Dogs should not get tootthache and their teeth should never require cleaning. I have giant dogs (over 88 pounds in weight), some over ten (human) years of age. None have ever had toothache, all still have all their teeth in excellent condition. I give mine cardboard boxes to tear up and chew and this does the job for them. If the ink on the boxes is not toxic, they can eat them, as they provide cellulose, which is a type of "sugar" or carbohydrate, or roughage.
Reply:Yes dogs do get toothache because their teeth are as susceptible to decay as ours. Signs of tooth trouble include rubbing the head on the ground, bad breath and drooling in a dog that doesn't usually drool.

Smaller breeds tend to have more tooth trouble than large breeds. My dogs have raw bones regularly and never need their teeth cleaning.
Reply:dogs do get tooth ache, you can usually tell when they do because they go off their food, and sometimes whine. they sometimes also chew things to try to get over the pain.

you can actually brush dogs teeth, there is a special toothpaste but you only brush them gently. you can also buy dental chews out of any store such as asda, which helps their teeth and also fights decay
Reply:Yes dogs can get toothache if you suspect your dog to have a dental problem please take it to the vets for treatment. I have got a 13 year old Jack Russell cross as well as a 8 month Jack Russell puppy with the 13 year old her breath was smelling bad I was brushing her teeth with a dog tooth paste but then I noticed some of her teeth were loose I took her to the vets and was informed she would need a clean and properly teeth removed well she was taken into surgery she had her teeth cleaned and had 5 teeth removed I was told that a dogs teeth are very important and they need to be looked after as any decay could lead to the dog being very ill. My advice would be to get the dogs teeth checked regular and to use a well known dog tooth paste every 2 days brush your dogs teeth. I learnt the hard way.
