I am going to my dentist for a toothache i've had for about 10 days %26amp; it's just keeps getting worse and bleeds whenever I chew or eat!
I've just got the braces i've had on my teeth off about 2 weeks ago %26amp; ever since I've had a toothache %26amp; I get food in between the tooth that hurts.
It looks like my gums are swollen around the tooth.
The pain is getting worse.
Do you think my dentist is going to write me a prescription for pain medication?
I've tried all over the counter pain relievers but nothing helps.
Thanks
Going to the dentist for a toothache?
well..I'm not a dentist. But If i remember correctly. If you just had them installed. They are gonna hurt...they are pulling your teeth into shape. He might give you a prescription for pain pills...but the next time to go to see him...he's gonna tighten them up and the pain is gonna be back. Braces suck... Get dentures..
Reply:Sounds like it's infected.
Reply:Yes, dentists are good about administering pain killers.
Maybe it's an abcessed tooth. I've had two and got root canals for them complete with mild pain killers.
Reply:Yep, he/she will give you something for pain. Probably for infection too.
Reply:Sounds like an absessed tooth. use a cold compress for now and get to the dentist ASAP.
Reply:hi there go back u might have an infection only the dentist can help u mean while rinse with warm water and salt but please go back . call them be safe be well
Reply:Until you get to the dentist, take a tooth pick and get the food out of the cavity that hurts. Then brush with Sensodine tooth paste and it will take some of the pain away.
Reply:You might have some cavities, or abcess teeth. I had braces. It is hard to keep those teeth, gums clean. If the tooth is too far shot, then you will have a root canal. It does not hurt, you get medication (yes novicaine) b/f it.
Don't worry about the pain. Just brush diligently (I do, but my genetics don't help me out) with an electric toothbrush, and floss everyday and don't eat a lot of sugar etc. (coffee/diet soda) and you will be fine.
Believe me, I've been through enough with the dentist. I take super care but have had oral surgery, braces, cavities, etc. My husband has never had anything. It sucks, very genetic. Just brush and floss is my recommendation.
Reply:It sounds that you have gum disease, perhaps a gum infection.
Pain medication is not the solution, just a temporary relief. If you took NSAID type of painkillers (aspirin, ibuprofen etc) bleeding is more likely as these drugs make the blood thinner, so you bleed easier. Paracetamol, like Tylenol, does NOT have the bleeding side effect.
TELL your doctor what medication you took over the last 2 weeks. It is very important (He probably ask you anyway, so tell the truth!)
DONT SKIP the appointment, you could only become worse. Pain killers are NOT your therapy.
Reply:MADMAX,
YOU MAY INDEED HAVE AN INFECTED TOOTH. THE ONLY WAY IS TO SEE YOUR DENTIST WHO'LL DO AN EXAM AND TAKE THE NEEDED X-RAYS.
MUCH OF WHAT NEEDS TO TREAT THIS TOOTH DEPENDS ON WHAT THE DENTIST FINDS ON DOING THE EXAM AND TAKING THE X-RAY.
WHETHER OR YOUR DENTIST DECIDES TO PRESCRIBE ANY MEDS DEPENDS ON WHAT'S FOUND.
