Clove Oil and toothache?

I've got a toothache and I went and bought some clove oil, but how do I use it? It says on the box "apply on cotton wool to the tooth cavity as required", but do I just dab it on the sore tooth or do I bite down on a bit of cotton wool soaked in it or do I try to pack the cavity with a bit of cotton wool soaked in it or what?

Oh, and how well does it actually work??!!

Clove Oil and toothache?
My father and sister swear by oil of cloves and they have frequent toothache!

What you're supposed to do is dip the cotton wool in the oil and then bite down on it and hold it there for about 30-40 seconds.

but i should warn you its not that pleasant tasting!!

hope this helps :))
Reply:it does work yes i suppose it would be up to you, if you think that biting on it for a while works then do that, i would if it was bad because then it would last longer.
Reply:put it onto cotton wool..and rub it all around the gum underneath the tooth that is giving you trouble...it numbs the gum - whisky can do the same thing. just keep applying it - and get yourself off to the dentist - nothing worse than toothache!!
Reply:i just put it on my finger then rub it around the tooth. it does work for a short time, but be warned.....it tastes foul and if you use it too often it burns your mouth! have a glass of water handy! good luck!!
Reply:Dab it around your gum and then put a soaked swab in the cavity. See a dentist soon or you may get an abscess form and lose your tooth, as I did some years ago. At all costs avoid watching "Marathon Man" - is it safe? IS IT SAFE?
Reply:Clove oil definitely works but only for a short time. I use a cotton wool bud, so I can get right in there!
Reply:If you have some kind infection I'd go with neosporin type antibiotic ointment not cream..

squirt the stuff in there

I have used this when I had a toothache so bad I couldn't stand it..Within a day the pain had subsided..
Reply:Hubby loves the stuff I cant stand it it made my tounge numb, hubby puts it on cotton wool and keeps it in his mouth against the tooth
Reply:I tried the clove oil all different ways and it didn't seem to help. It seemes to me now if there is pain there some sort of infection at the tooth to follow so recantly I found out about lavender essential oil. You rub one drop over each side of the tooth gumline and it helps to extract the infection and kill it off. This did help even the first use. It gives a cooling sensation wich helps with immediate pain. So if you can't get the clove oil working try this. I hope get to see a dentist soon so you don't have pain anymore.
Reply:i found it to be total rubbish try sensodyne tooth paste.
Reply:yes it works i had several gry socets when i had some teeth pulled and thats what the oral surgeon told me to do
Reply:I used oil of cloves when I was in agony one bank holiday weekend. It didn't work. When I told my dentist he explained that oil of cloves is very good for healing wounds in the mouth; stitches, cuts etc... but as for toothache... he said..'' you might as well balance an asprin on your forehead when you have a headache!'' Very true!
Reply:I used to just hold the cotton wool on the tooth
