I woke up with a really bad toothache. I have tried vanilla, alcohol, warm salt water, brushing my teeth, rinsing with mouthwash...nothing has helped. I even took 2 Tylenol and 500mg of Naprosyn. The pain has only worsened. It has started to throb. I cant get in to see the dentist today. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Help with a toothache?
ibuprofen is the only painkiller that works for me, because a toothache is usually inflamed tissue, the ibuprofen reduces this and also helps alleviate the pain too.
Reply:Try Motrin 800mg - should reduce the swelling
Reply:this may sound icky but it really works, gargle your mouth with Hydrogen peroxide, dont swallow it! Just swish it around in your mouth, That and try crushing and aspirin and placing it directly on the tooth. Keep trying the warm salt water as well
Reply:Get yourself a plastic baggie and put crushed ice in it. rub it around the painful area, it will hurt for a few mins but then the ice helps the swelling go down which makes you feel better, get yourself some orajel to.
Reply:Toothaches can be absolutely horrible and it could be a symptom of a bigger issue or there might be a simple solution but either way, quick dental evaluation can prevent possible further complicated issues. (I worked with an Oral Surgeon in the past) The mouth is a world in itself and I can tell you that
Ive had my share of dental experiences, positive and negative.
If you can get to a store today, ask the pharmacist for a strong over the counter topical oral product that can provide temporary relief. Anti inflammatorys and ice are also a temporary option. Maybe with everyones ideas brainstorming here you'll get a good combo that'll help.
Id plan a visit to dentist asap for the diagnosis and make sure you're not in need of antibiotics or dental work, take good care of your health, the mouth is part of your entire system. :9).
Its tough to answer over the internet, just make sure you dont have a fever or difficulty swallowing if theres any swelling. A trip to an out patient emergency room is always an option. I have had 'bad' experiences with dentists and would highly suggest second opinions before choosing your best option if that becomes a necessity. I hope you feel better quickly. Best wishes and Happy Holidays.
