Why is it that a toothache can hurt so bad?
Toothache or tooth pain is caused when the nerve root of a tooth is irritated. Dental (tooth) infection, decay, injury, or loss of a tooth are the most common causes of dental pain. Pain may also occur after an extraction (tooth is pulled out). Pain sometimes originates from other areas and radiates to the jaw, thus appearing to be tooth pain. The most common areas include the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint or TMJ), ear pain, and even occasional heart problems.

Bacteria growing inside your mouth can contribute to gum disease, plaque, and dental decay. These problems can become painful. The cause and prevention of dental disease has been well investigated.

You can prevent the majority of dental problems through flossing, brushing with fluoride toothpaste, and having your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year. The dentist may apply sealants and fluoride, which are especially important in children

might help

when anti biotics full course has been taken the dentist will be able to help

what can try is white pepper %26amp; salt mix in small jar or on saucer dip finger into mix and apply directly to affected tooth

causes numbing %26amp; the salt acts as a cleanser of any impurities (dosent taste bad)

also can rinse mouth with warn water %26amp; salt
Reply:it's the nerves in our teeth and gums that make it hurt so bad. i have a molar with a hole in it right now. how did that happen, i laughed really hard and my tooth broke. (figure that one out)i need it pulled but cannot afford as you cannot afford yours. if you have any clove oil, or a cooking clove, put it on your tooth, it will help for awhile. also try anbesol, i know just temporary but it will help. good luck to you, and happy holidays.
Reply:I hope you feel better, I just had a tooth pulled myself. Its so bad because it is a tender spot and there are so many nerves in your mouth, they are all connected to your head, that's why you always get a severe headache or your eye aches because of the pain.
Reply:Inside the tooth is found what's called the 'pulp chamber'.The pulp chamber is a vital component of the tooth as it contains the pulp which contains the blood vessels, nerves, and connectives of a tooth.

Damages to the pulp can be a result of a cracked tooth or a deep cavity. When that occurs, those blood vessels will swell. Since the pulp is enclosed in hard tooth structure, there is no place for that swelling to go to be relieved. Hence, the intense, throbbing pain of a toothache. The added misery of a toothache, I think, is that it's hard to distance yourself from the pain since it's right there in your head reminding you of it all the time!
Reply:when i was 17weeks pregnant i had three abses's and 3 root-canals because i was pregnant there was minimal they could do and i was caused to endure the pain and was actually admitted to hospital because i couldn't eat or drink much at all my keetons where as high as anything i would hands up say that my tooth ach experience was 10000000 Times worse than labour since then i still suffer the pain and nothing helps at all still got my root-canals and need them pulled good luck with all sadly our gums are sensitive anti-biotics helped me big time, also i use my baby's teething gel which gives me a wee bit of relief...
