I have a really bad toothache, please help answer my ques.?

I have a really bad toothache in one of my right back molars. It hurts like heck and won't stop. The tooth has a grayish-brownish hue to it. When I squeeze the hole, puss comes out. I can't go to the dentist till monday. I've never had as much as a cavity before, and I'm 13. what can I do to ease the pain? Is there any way the dentist can examine the tooth without numbing it? If so, please tell how.

I have a really bad toothache, please help answer my ques.?
Since you are thirteen you really need to discuss this with a parent. You can ask them for either Motrin or Advil, these will offer you some relief until you can be seen by your dentist.

The brownish/grayish hue is most likely decay. If you can express puss, then there is an active infection which will need to be treated by way of an extraction, since this is a deciduous tooth.

Your dentist will be able to give you an exam without having to use any anesthetic to numb the tooth. But in order to be treated, you will need to be anesthetized. If you are anxious about the anesthetic, ask for N20 to be administered first. It will help to relax you and can make a stressful situation not nearly as difficult for you to experience. Don't worry, your dentist is there to help you with this dental problem making it as pain free as possible.

Do not put aspirin on your tooth, ever.

Additional information: Since you are 13 yrs old, I would be inclined to believe that this is a deciduous tooth and not a permanent tooth. I also feel that it would not be prudent of myself or any one else responding to your question, to offer any advice pertaining to taking any type medication, without recommending that you ask a parent or adult prior.

Also, when a deciduous tooth is infected, the extraction of it is usually all that is needed, any related infection will clear up on it's own without any need for antibiotics to be prescribed.
Reply:Put an aspirin on the tooth and let it dissolve. The dentist will not do anything with the tooth infected like that. He will give you antibiotics and maybe something mild for pain. Then, once the infection is gone, then he will actually work on the tooth. But, until then, the aspirin will make it feel a ton better. Just let the aspirin melt directly on the tooth. Good luck!!
Reply:consider other dentists. some will take emergency walk ins. i had to do this a while back, and i found one who took me in immediately. the root canal was no fun, but it beat having that toothache.
Reply:The tooth is infected, so if the dentist thinks it is viable he will put you on antibiotic and wait until the infection has subsided and then will probably recommend a root canal, which can cost about $800-1000 and then another $1000 for the crown (the part that looks like your tooth). The only other option would be to have it extracted ($300-700), if you do not go to an oral surgeon (who can put you under) then you definately will want to wait until the infection is gone or you will have difficulty getting numb.

As for right now, you need to really watch the infection b/c it can spread into your lymph system or up into your eye. If you start having rapid swelling (size of a golf ball or larger) the you will need to go to the ER and get on IV antibiotics..

You can rinse with salt %26amp; baking soda water several times a day along with taking advil for the pain.

Good luck and take this seriously b/c it can get real bad real fast.
Reply:Clove oil is the best home remedy for toothaches. Even dentists use it. I found the information at http://aches.in/toothacheremedies.html useful
Reply:Oh my god. some of these answers are pretty scary. i get a toothache now and then too.

im

afraid.
Reply:I am so sorry to hear of your problem, the best pain reliever is an antibiotic plus Ibuprofen. When a tooth is infected/abscess the antibiotic fight the infection and reduce the swelling, if any. The antibiotic would not fix the problem, but it will take the symptoms away for a short time. You can get an antibiotic from either your general physician or an emergency room, but you NEED to visit a dentist asap to fix the problem permanently. Since you are 13 you will need to be accompanied by a guardian, if you are going to ER or your guardian will have to make the phone call to your primary doctor to get the antibiotic. Best of luck.
