Strange toothache problem?

I have a severe toothache that came on suddenly a week ago. The teeth are one or two on the upper side and two or three on the lower side (right above and below each other) on my left side. It isn't noticable during the day, just mostly at night while I'm trying to go to sleep (then it flares up into a pain that is unbearable). I sometimes hurts to eat on that side.

Strange toothache problem?
Did you have recent Dental work?

Do you have a cold or sinus problems?

Are your gums OK? any bleeding/inflammation?

Do you grind your teeth at night? If yes, Any unusual stresses in your life recently?

In response to your addendum, most probably you have inflamed gums. Brush and floss before you go to bed. They may bleed when you do that, just rinse with some salt water. It should go away in few days.
Reply:do you possibly grind your teeth at night?=this can cause them to hurt
Reply:Possibly grinding your teeth in your sleep (are you stressed out lately?) Or it may even be due to your sinuses!
Reply:Go to the dentist at once!!!! These could be cavities and they can and will get infected. That will turn it from a cavity into needing root canals andn fillers and all kinds of things you may be able to stave off by taking care of things now. The longer you wait the worse it will be and more it will cost. I put off the dentist for six months and am now facing a $4,000 dental bill for two teeth.
Reply:Check to see if they move slightly and if they do, get to a dentist quick. Sounds like you have Periodontal disease, and that just keeps getting worse and worse until you lose your teeth. The pain really is unbearable, too. Good luck.
Reply:Hi there,

Ill state the obvious - you need to go see your general dentist. Have him/her take a set of periapical and bitewing xrays to check the condition of your teeth and your gums.

Its hard to tell you exactly what your problems may be without an examination and having current xrays. However, from what you described - it may be anything from pulp inflammation from your teeth (needing root canal), an impaction of an unerupted tooth (wisdom teeth perhaps), or some sort of periapical abscess (gum problem).

Overall - its hard to say for sure but this is definitely NOT a sign to be ignored because this will only get worse. Go see your general dentist asap and get the issue taken care. Best of luck.
Reply:Do you wake up in the middle of the night to the pain after you have been asleep for awhile? If this is the case, you may be like some who grind their teeth while they sleep. Some people can do this for years without any discomfort, then suddenly they grind those teeth down to a bad state and the discomfort starts. Pharmacies carry mouth guards that can be warn at night to cushion the affects of the grinding, I think the guards even help some people stop grinding their teeth. Have you had dental work done recently that required them to open your mouth really wide for a long length of time. That can sometimes flare up later by making the jaw hurt in such a way that it feels like a toothache. The best thing to do is to see a dentist if you can. But, if you are like me and don't have enough money or insurance, then try the mouth piece and see what happens. Sometimes problems in the jaw like TMJ can feel like a toothache.
Reply:It could be a lot of things: pain from grinding your teeth, cavities, an absess, wisdom teeth (if you haven't had them removed). I would go to the dentist soon. If they can't see what's wrong just from looking in your mouth, then they can take an xray and can usually see what's up. For now, take some pain meds. Motrin helps with toothaches in particular.
Reply:Either biting your tongue in your sleep or grinding your teeth. Just in case, head over to your dentist to see if it is not anything worse such as cavities or an abscess.
Reply:Please please see a dentist! I ignored my tooth pain off for 2 days and had to scramble to see someone Friday. Now the swelling is worse, and I just spoke to the dentist- if I don't respond to a different drug, I might have to be hospitalized- this is very serious. Don't do what I did and try to ignore it.

Please don't delay like I did! I so regret not seeing a dentist days ago, and I am very worried.

I don't mean to alarm you, and frankly, I got a little annoyed when other people on here told me the same thing. But they were right. Go immediately.
