Stupid Toothache!?

Ok ive had a tremendous toothache i have a dentist appointment but not until 3 days from now! Ive tried the warm water with salt, great at the first try made me able to go to sleep ( havents slept or ate in 2 days). When i tried it a second time it made my toothache much worse! Cold water resting on my tooth (wisdom tooth upper molar) seems to calm it down but only for like 5 seconds and then the pain comes back again. But then now im continuosly drinking cold water and peeing alot. Ive tried ambesol, made it worse, drinking ibuprofen (advil) 400mg. It still hurts, really bad point to crying. Help Please!!

Stupid Toothache!?
To me, when cold makes a tooth feel better, it is a sign of an Acute Pulpitis. What this means is that the nerve in the tooth is inflammed, and it doesn't like it so it is throbbing. I have had patients come into the office chewing on ice for relief. Only things you can do;

1)Remove the nerve from the tooth - or what is called a root canal.

2)remove the tooth

3)Take 600mgs of Ibuprofen 4 x a day, or 800mgs 3x a day.

and Tylenol 3 would be a better painkiller.

4)See a dentist immediately.

Antibiotics won't help at this point, because the nerve is not dead and there is not an infection that is causing the pain. The pain is caused by the troubled nerve. Stick it out for a few days, the pain will stop because the nerve dies, but then you will be open to starting an infection.

Good luck
Reply:I've been there. Most often, tooth pain is caused by infection. One thing that sometimes helped me is to take just a tiny bit of warm peroxide and let it sit on the tooth. It will foam. Do not swallow it and try your best not to vomit. Lie with your face on a heating pad. Also, and this is gonna sound really weird, but it might help, take two fingers and push them into your cheek right at the corner of your jaw. Maybe it's because it makes your mouth water, releasing some of the pressure, but I swear it helps. Good luck and believe me, I feel for you!
