Ok, so when I was younger, I chipped one of my front teeth. A few years later, the dentist gave my a filling at the back of my two front teeth, and last year he re-did the filling. I was told I will have a crown or something put on when Im 16. So anyway, yesterday I started getting toothache in one of my two front teeth, it would be the right one to me. I put ice on it on the last night, straight onto the tooth, I ate it and put it against my tooth. I woke up at like 3 this morning and couldnt sleep, I thought the ache would have gone by then but it hadn't, so I wrapped some ice in a towel and put it on my mouth and straight onto the tooth. I went back to bed at 5, and woke up at 11, and my mouth and lips situated near that tooth, so the right side of my mouth, at the top, felt numb. The same feeling you get when you have a numbing needle at the dentist. My mum also commented that the numbed part of my mouth was swollen. I would like to get the swelling down and an idea of wot it is?!?
Toothache And Now Swollen Lip!?!?
Just from the description you gave, I would guess the dentist did some form of a root canal and then put a filling in the tooth to close it up. If he did not seal the canal, but just removed the nerve, that would not be enough to keep infection from occurring. You need a root canal most likely, but first you need some antibiotic to get the infection down so the tooth can be anesthetized properly. Call a dentist today, the pain and swelling will only get worse.
If the ice did not hurt your tooth, it is a dead or dying tooth. Normally a live tooth would be hypersensitive to ice being placed on it.
Reply:Keep the ice off its not helping if you are truly swollen you are probably abscessed. Get to a dentist ASAP when you call tell them you a swollen they will get you right in this is nothing to play with.
Reply:its a infection in your gum most likely call your dentist and set up an apointment if it doesent change tomorow
Reply:If you have a toothache you don't put ice on it....it's not like when you get a bruise on your muscle or something. You should go to the dentist and have them look at it because it could be a cavity or something else.
Reply:You need to go to your dentist a.s.a.p.
The ice should go outside of your mouth~
Take some anti-inflammatory medication~i.e. advil, tylenol, motrin, etc.
but please call your dentist~chances are it's time for that crown now~not later~
Hope it feels better soon~!~
Reply:you actually made a mistake puting ice on the tooth u should have contacted ur dentist straight off.Do u indulge in taking sweet things? or do u chew gum alot ?all these are questions u have to solve to find a lasting solution. If u answer yes to any of these then see ur dentist i would not advise u to go on personal medication
Reply:Go see your dentist, asap , sounds like the tooth abcessed.Good luck.
