Toothache pain!!!! Help....?

I have suffered since yesterday with a toothache. There is nothing wrong with the tooth. It does have a filling, but I believe the pain is coming from my sinuses as it is an upper molar on the left and my left ear has been hurting as well. I went to a healthcare center yesterday and they prescribed an antibiotic and a mild analgesic for the pain, but it is not stopping the pain. I have taken 2 Tylenol, 4 Advil and one Tramadol. I am still hurting. I am open to suggestions. Help, please????

Toothache pain!!!! Help....?
It takes 2 days for an antibiotic treatment to start to relieve a toothache. Stay with the Motrin or Advil for dental pain. Tylenol is good, but not for a tooth problem. Don't over do it on any medication, it takes time for medications to work.

Additional information: Sinus infections and allergies that cause the sinus cavity to fill and swell can cause a patient to "think" they have a tooth ache or all of the teeth hurt especially when they bite. This is the case with the upper teeth since the sinus cavity rest on top of the roots of these teeth. Your dentist can distinguish a tooth problem or abscess from a sinus infection with a simple x ray.

If you have serious doubts that this is a tooth and it possible that it may be your sinuses, try taking an antihistamine such as benadryl to see if it offers any relief, if it does then most likely it is your sinuses.
Reply:Is the pain worse in the morning and gets better during the day? Could be that you are clenching your teeth. Also, tooth pain can be referred forward, so you may have a different tooth troubling you than you think.

Can you make the tooth hurt by stomping your feet? If so, this is probably sinus related and not caused by your teeth.

Does the tooth wake you at night? Probably tooth related.

Take it easy today. Take a nap. Try hot or cold compresses, whichever makes it feel better. If you do not feel better by Tuesday or so, get tooth checked by dds.
Reply:Get some Oral Gel and rub some of that around your gum. It will numb it until the antibiotics start working. If u get desperate take a asprin and put it on the tooth. Taste awful but it works on my cavities. Good luck
Reply:As the doc said the antibiotic will kill the pain in a couple of days, but what to do in the mean time? My doctor gave me vicodin and it worked great. Before i got to the dentist however, i read on the internet a bunch of suggestions, and as crazy as his sounds, this one worked. Take a wash cloth or paper towel and wrap it around some ice cubes. Apply the ice to the webbing of skin between your thumb and forefinger on either hand, but preferably on the same side of your body as the pain is coming from in your face. It sounds crazy, but it really does give you some relief.

if your tooth is in pain there is something wrong with it. get to a dentist monday morning, The toothaches come from the inside of your tooth, the nerve is in there, just because you can't see a problem by looking in the mirror, doesn't mean it's ok. Only an x-ray can tell you it's ok.
Reply:When you get a tooth infection it affects your sinuses and ears and can travel into the throat. Just keep taking the antibiotic and get a stronger prescription for the pain. See the dentist as soon as possible. Let them know it is an emergency. If you let an tooth infection go too long it can travel into your bloodstream. Just because you don't see anything doesn't mean there isn't a hairline fracture in the tooth.
Reply:Hi,

Toothache can be unbelievably painful, I know, it is a good thing that you have already asked for professional advice, if the pain is still there then you should probably get back to your dentist.

There are some things you can do to help ease the pain such as:

Holding a shot of whiskey over the tooth (the alcohol can sometimes numb the pain)

Holding a piece of ice over the tooth

Swishing a small glass of water with salt in it around your mouth

And there are quite a few other methods you can use to ease the pain a little (or a lot).

Get to your dentist and see what they say to do, in the meantime you can try some of the home remedies there are to ease the pain.

Hope this helps :-)
