I have a horrible toothache..... it goes away for a little bit and then comes back soon as i try to lay down and go back to sleep i have been up most of the night.... im so frustrated, tired and afraid that because of the pain and how stressed i feel that i could be causing the baby distress...... im 38 weeks 5 days, i have taken reg. tylenol....... brushed my teeth a billion times, eaten tums (heard the calcium helps, and it has but i can't keep taken them)...... im really getting desperate any thing else i can try?
Toothache!!!!! help!?
Honestly other than pain pills, depending on what's wrong there is nothing you can do short of having the tooth fixed. I'm having the same problem. I've got two broken teeth that my dentist won't pull until I have my baby. I'm 38 weeks pregnant and I've been suffering from a tooth ache for almost 2 months. It comes and goes. usually it gets REALLY bad right before it abscesses and then pops then it will feel better for a little while. My baby is still perfectly health so don't worry too much. My doctor gave me some Vicodin which is safe to take while you're pregnant as long as you don't take too much. You should ask him and also ask for some antibiotics. The pain will get worse when you lay down because of your blood flow and your blood pressure, when more blood goes to your head the pain gets worse. I've had my share of sleepless nights trust me. I got a hot pad sometimes I lay my cheek on, doesn't help a lot but it does a little. Try swishing with warm salt water too. Sometimes it helps. I hope this helps!! Tooth pain is so horrible I totally know what you're going through. I actually couldn't wait for my gum to come to a point that I could pop it took a lot of pressure away. Good luck!!

If it's down to the nerve, and it sounds like it is orajel and all those kinds of things won't work. Don't know if you have tried them yet. But they won't work they aren't met to get down to a nerve. I've had to go to the ER 3 times now because I don't have dental coverage yet they gave me antibiotics and pain pills. I'm still waiting for my dental to kick in and the dentists I've talked to, like I said won't work on my mouth for something so major until the baby is born. I'm in your boat!! I feel for you!! I just brush my teeth like 4 times a day and floss constantly. And like I said swish with salt water. I have 2 teeth that are visibly missing pieces though so I hope for your sake yours isn't as bad. Again good luck.
Reply:I'm not sure if tea is bad for the baby or not; in any case,
what you could try is placing a tea bag on the tooth that is hurting...this helps me sometimes with toothaches.
just chew down on it and let the juices get into the gum line.
good luck.
Reply:try a tooth ache gel if you have some. that numbing stuff.. whats it called.... uh i cant remember, im sorry. oh wait! or-a-gel. thats it. thats not how its spelled though, just prenouced. other then that, maybe some mint tea would help. then you should try to get some sleep. if it keeps happening, call a dentist or a doctor. dentist first though
Reply:sounds like a cavitity gone too far. when you are pregnant, you are more prone to cavities. being pregant depletes you of calcium. i suggest seeing a dentist asap. and take calcium or a multi vitamin. with the pain, i would not eat anything sweet. i would chew on ice chips to numb it. or put an ice pack on your face etc. since you are pregnant i really don't recommend anything else exept getting it taken care of. pain medication to stop it will only hurt the baby. and you will have to take care of it in the long run anyway. so go now before it gets worse. good luck. and congrats.
Reply:Oil of cloves, trust me this truly works, just put some on until you get to a dentist.
Reply:the baby will fine but you need to get into the dentist today!! you should not have to suffer with a toothache and especially with you being so close to having your baby. try putting a warm heating pad on your cheek until you get to the dentist!! try some oragel to and see if that relieves the pain!! good luck hon. call your dentist!!!
Reply:go to the dentist is the best thing hun.
Reply:What ever you do dont breathe in cold air. A fan will make it worse. Gargle with hot salty water. This will help. if its real bad you can put a aspirin directly on it but it taste so nasty. At walmart they have these little strips that look like listerine strips but its for tootheaches. You put it directly on the tooth and let it disolve. If you have a whole in your tooth I would recomend getting some tooth/braces wax and pushing it in the hole after the strip has disolved. I have a hole in one of my wisdom teeth and it works great when I do this.
Best of luck I know the PAIN yu are going through.
Reply:Maybe try applying heat? Get a heating pad, or a hot water bottle and place it on your face, where the tooth is causing pain.
Or try these home remedies...except for the whiskey one!!!
1. Using Icepack: Ice offers excellent numbing properties. Hold the ice around affected area and try to compress it there. Most often, the pain gets reduced as it is excellent in suppressing pain at nerve endings.
2. Get fresh peppermint (approximately 5 grams), add it in one cup of water and boil it, add half table spoon of salt. Make the water lukewarm and drink it. When ingested, this solution acts as pain killer and can eradicate other pains like headaches.
3. Using cucumber: Get cucumber from any vegetable stores, cut it into thicker slices. Hold these pieces on and around the tooth that is paining and it will start working to give soothing effect. If cucumber is refrigerated, it is better as its very chillness acts as catalyst to its soothing effect.
4. You can try out swig of whiskey over the irritating tooth. Once the gums surrounding absorb some quantity of alcohol, it delivers a kind of anesthesia to the affected area which results in lessening the pain.
5. Using oats: If toothache is experiencing the presence of abscess at gums then holding oats there can draw out the puss. The pain will be reduced.
6. Using dried peppermint leaves: Place a small stack of dried peppermint leaves around the aching tooth for 15 minutes and then spit out. Repeat this procedure10 to 15 times a day. Peppermint acts in a dual way. First, it brings the abscess to the upper surface if there any and then acts as pain killer.
7. Using real vanilla extracts: Get a cotton ball and put some real vanilla extract on it. Apply it on the inflamed location and you will be amazed to find out that it numbs!
8. Using Clove: From ancient times, clove oil has been one of the regular instant therapies. If you are not able to find the clove oil, then search your kitchen shelves to find out few cloves. Try to squeeze this towards the painful area. Clove being analgesic in nature will reduce the soreness.
9. Asafetida: Another miraculous pain killer! Take a half spoon of it and mix it with bit of lemon juice to make the paste of it. Make this paste Luke warm and apply the mixture with help of cotton ball.
10. Use of Iodine: just a drop of iodine put on the tooth do the job. But you have to be cautious and you should not swallow it.
11. Oil of Oregano: Although it tastes bad and leaves a burning sensation behind after application, it has got natural antibiotic properties.
12. Garlic: Make a paste of garlic and add some rock salt to it. Make a homogeneous mixture to apply on the affected area
Reply:Hi i use cloves if you have a hole in your tooth i use to sit it in the hole and with in a few minutes it felt to much better.if not try clove oil but that's gross. It is safe i am currently pregnant with number 7 and i have had no probs using it.
good luck
Reply:Drink lot of plain (not cold) water. Take ample rest. Do not watch TV. Reduce intake of Tea or Coffee. Do NOT take pain relievers beyond the just minimum, even if the pain does not go away.
Apply some relaxing balm on the temples and below the jaw. Keep cold wet cloth on both eyes. Do deep and regular breeting.
These are very simple solutions. They work.
Will appreciate if you try them and if it helped.
I am with you. Relax.
Reply:go to the dentist!!! they may be able to do something to relieve your pain and partially fix the tooth until after the baby is born. you'll never know if you don't try. pregnancy can cause a lot of tooth issues if you don't take wonderful care of them and you definitely shouldn't skimp on the dental care while pregnant.
