Terrible toothache?

I woke up in the middle of the night last night with a really bad toothache. I know the tooth has got a big cavity in it because I can see it.

But I don't have a dentist, so I don't know what to do and I'm also absolutely terrified of dentists as well. Is there anything I can do other than seeing a dentist to help?

I haven't been in 14 years because of a bad experience and I really am terrified of dentists. The thought of going gives me a panic attack. But my tooth really hurts, what can I do to help the pain? I've taken 800mg of ibuprofen, but it still hurts.

Terrible toothache?
You really need to see a dentist about it. If you are really that scared just talk to the receptionist and tell her how you feel about trips to the dentist. You can also relay this info to the dentist him/herself when you get there. Dentists for the most part are very freindly people and when doing a procedure such as filling a cavity (or maybe pulling the tooth) they are very careful that you are as comfortable as possible. You probably won't feel anything but you'll hear some pretty weird sounds such as drilling. All you need to do for this is bring your IPOD or other music playing device and crank that ***** up! The dentist isn't going to mind as long as the wires from the headphones don't get in the way.

Also most dentist offices let you pay so much per month until you're all paid off. Just make sure to be on the safe side but most offices won't mind as long as they are getting SOMETHING every month from you.
Reply:well u have 2 see a dentist...and its different now not like the last time u have been there (14 years)..he will give u anesthetic. and u wont feel somethin.and u have 2 do it fast coz it may swollen then it will be a surgical case
Reply:don't afraid dentist will help you. but if you really don't want to go there take strong medicine which will delete a sickness. if i were you i will go to the dentist.
Reply:IF you don't go back to sort the problem out IMMEDIATELY with a DENTIST, you risk infecting your ears, nose, and throat as well as your heart - it will be more painful, more expensive... and much more frightening.
Reply:You can call around. Some dentists offer laughing gas to put you to sleep, instead of a painful injection. You may have to have a rootcanal. That is more painful and expensive than a cavity. I would get it checked out right away. Ask friends or family for the name of their dentist.
Reply:tooth pain is the worse physical pain you will ever experience if you let it go too long it will get infected and become abscess this can kill you. so be brave my friend find a dr. that works on a curve or takes payments and get it pulled. sorry for your pain well agony,
Reply:First of all your going to have to see a dentist. And the person up there is right. Times have changed. They have a very fast acting anesthetic and you wont feel a thing. Aso for right this second you can use some clove oil to kill the pain. They even make a "gum" which is actually a wax that contains clove oil which will also create a seal so air wont further irritate the exposed root. You can get both at your local pharmacy.
Reply:I think you know you need to see a dentist. The issue is getting you there.

Do you have a friend/relative who can drive you and stay with you during the procedure? That may help some of the anxiety.

Perhaps your primary care doctor would be willing to give you a few pills of Valium to help ease your anxiety further. It can't hurt to ask.

You may also want to check for a dentist who works with people with dementia. Those dentist are used to helping very anxious people and are good at putting nervous people at ease.

I hope you get this taken care of soon. Good luck.
Reply:Hello, I'm a leader of an international dental network. I've just read your question by luck. You should buy a piece of rosemary, chop it into small parts and put it into the cavity - so that you can take it out later. After two hours you have to change it for a new one. Of course this is an alternative way, the best would be to contact a dentist. I promise there won't be any pain we are very famous about our painless methods! I hope you get lost of the pain.
Reply:along with ibuprofen take capsules containing amoxicillin[500mg] twice a day take Ibuprofen thrice a day. take warm saline gargles thrice a day.AND PLEASE SEE A DENTIST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.I agree you had a bad experience but not all dentists are same.A dentist is the only person who can provide you with permanent relief. Also prolonged self medication can be hazardous to your helth plus the decayed teeth if not treated properly may weaken its adjacent teeth also.
Reply:get a dentist!!! i had 5 1/2 teeth pulled 2 months ago and there was soooooooo much major discomfort but now it doesn't hurt at all and i have braces. i still am afraid of dentists but all the pain and discomfort is way worth it.
