Toothache one day, gone the next. What gives?

Certainly not complaining here, but... I had a severe toothache last week that lasted two or three days (first tooth directly to the side of my front tooth) and hurt near the gumline when I pushed on it. I could have sworn I had a cavity, it hurt so much.

But before I had a chance to call the dentist, it went away completely. I push on it now and it's fine. Any ideas what could cause a temporary toothache like that? Should I still talk to the dentist about it?

Thank you!

Toothache one day, gone the next. What gives?
You could've hit it, bit on something hard, have an abcess, a sinus infection, or even your wisdom teeth pushing on it - too many variables. See if it happens again, if it doesn't seem to be anything easily identifiable then get an xray to rule out an infection.
Reply:Do you or did you have a stuffy nose that day? I find that if my sinuses are bothering me it also can cause some tooth discomfort on the top teeth. Another time I went to the dentist because my top teeth on one side were bothering me. He checked them and said everything is ok, then he checked my ear, he said, "I'm not supposed to be telling you this, so, go to your doctor, you have an ear infection." I did and it was causing my teeth to ache???
Reply:does it hurt when having cold or hot drink? or eating sweet or sour food? if your answer is yes, then something IS wrong, if pain is gone in few minutes, it's still is reversible, so go to your nearest dentist quick! or maybe it's just your gums, try brushing not only the tooth but the gum area as well and try to know your new bestfriend...the FLOSS!
Reply:Sometimes, a toothache can have nothing to do with your teeth. Pain around the teeth can be caused by an inner or external ear infections and sinuses.
Reply:Sinus problems are always possible. I have also had toothaches after eating something like popcorn and a hull would get stuck between my tooth and gum. You can't see it and sometimes it will take a day or two for it to start hurting. Once it's out the pain is gone.
